A proposed federal law is the latest -- and perhaps most powerful -- attempt seeking to limit spiraling salaries among college coaches. The possibility of an anti-trust exemption emerging from that law would allow schools to limit or cap those salaries with the creation of a national commission that would aim to reform college athletics.

"I'm mortified at these salaries," said House Rep. Donna Shalala (D-FL), sponsor of the CACIA Act of 2019. "We have not been able to slow spending or expenditures."

The bill introduced last month would establish the Congressional Advisory Commission on Intercollegiate Athletics (CACIA) "to investigate the relationship between institutions of higher education and intercollegiate athletic programs."

Most of the national attention for the proposed bill has centered around increased oversight of sexual assault by the NCAA regarding athletes. However, the bill contains a provision that would examine "the amount of funds expended on coaching salaries …"

"I would say this would be discussed. That's really the only way we can stop [spiraling salaries]," Ohio University professor David Ridpath told CBS Sports. "As a public institution, you shouldn't be building a lazy river or paying a strength coach a million dollars."

Man frick this. Coaches are paid based on what their value is to the university right? Then who the frick is government to tell universities they can only pay them so much.

I think house of reps get paid too much considering they generate $0. This is the stupidest thing I ever heard.

This will never happen.
Democrats don’t understand basic economics and it’s kind of scary.

Exactly, a salary at a public school can be $350k.

Who is to say a private group like the TAF cannot give to a corch?

If a college or any entity is willing to pay someone x amount of dollars voluntarily the government has no business interfering. Our government is supposed to represent us, not rule over us.

They understand it. They just despise free market supply side economics.

This is really crossing a line. What if she thinks pro athletes make too much money? Will she try to limit their salaries? Then that way the owners of the teams will be able to not have to pay as much so you limit the pay of the players while the owners are only able to get richer? This is insane.

These retards think the multimillion dollar salaries come from the state and not privately funded athletic programs

We all know it's not the school who's paying for it. This thing is DOA.

I guess not.. Since they don't have to reveal how much they pay their coaches..

That dang lazy river causing all sorts of problems.

Also, if the salary is limited then schools will just stack on incentives and bonuses.
