Mine went up 45%. It has been reduced for quite a few of the last ten years due to the flood first and then COVID. Had to get the pound of flesh back at some point, I guess. It does suck.

Rumors in my deep LP Baptist church this AM about increases of 50%-100% or more. Someone related an increase of 500% in one case. Mine is up to $2400 from $1800 last year. Actually, mine moves around--it has been over $2K in the past and down to $1100, all within the past 5 years.

Should be better next year since the PARDs tax failed

Since the flood there have been assessment reductions, and Covid I believe as well. This year those reductions have gone away. So while it feels like a big jump, you’ve actually been saving the last eight or nine years. Jeff Taylor has been doing everything short of standing on the side of the road trying to tell people about this. If you’re paying $500 to pards you have a half a million dollar house. For the average household in Denham Springs, the amount is $165. This year Pards rolled back their mileage to a bottom line of a one percent increase. So for most it’s was a $1.65 increase.

Even the most rural places in the state, think cornfields and only a Dollar General within 10 miles, will pay $1000 on a $240,000 home. If you don’t wanna pay for more property taxes, you can move to these areas, the only places in the country that don’t have property taxes, are some rural tundra in Alaska.

Although Texas has no sales tax, they pay three times the property taxes we do and also on their boats cars RVs and trailers. 5k for a 240k house.

For the most part our assessments are well below what we would sell our house for.
The Assesors office has been begging people for months to come in and talk about their assessments and will reduce it if possible.

Pards will put the renewal back on the next ballot, maybe not amended. This happened to live oak in 2014, and it passed the second time.

Protesting in this county is beyond useless, which is why I’ll never buy a house in this county again.

Property taxes are the worst form of taxation imo.

Every tax on the ballot passes in this state. Either we don’t understand how elections and taxes work or they’re rigged.

Maybe, and that’s fine. I generally support PARDs, but they’ve gone overboard with services at North Park. I don’t believe they should be using taxpayer funds to compete with private business like with the gym and daycare.

I would consider that.
I doubt any govt body is going to do things as efficiently as a private business. I heard their note on that building is 40k a month. Many of those services are subsidized 20-30% and needed to keep things afloat. If they were market price probably would lose some business. but I guess that’s the whole point to help seniors and lower income to these programs and lift the community up as a whole, everyone benefits from that.

Tax revenue to Pards is about 55% with the rest coming from programs.

They make me livid. Talk about a tax on urealized gains. Yay, our house has more potential value, but we live here so that's worthless to us at the current moment.

And roughly 37% of our bill goes to EBR schools. I understand the point of great schools for our community, but we're paying for a subpar product that nobody wants to use.

If people had to actually write checks every December and deliver them to the appropriate office, people would fight back with the quickness. Imagine having to write an annual check to EBR schools and then have to deliver it to somebody at the school board office.
