I could or anyone could have 10-20-50 renters who vote for the tax and because of the way they voted I’m subjected to the taxes in my property that they voted for
So you’re saying we live in a democracy? Thanks for the update

The dumbasses near me had the option of 5 cents per gallon on gas or property tax and voted for property tax.

quote:I am against the tax in my area, but you seem confused as to how this actually works. The tax is only initially paid by the property owner, who quickly passes this cost to the renter - along with an increase to cover the trouble - just like any retailer would do with any increase in costs.
IMO only property owners should be able to vote on property taxes. Not looking for an argument but I’d like to hear others opinions on this or a counter thought
So the renters still pay the tax - secondarily. Sadly, some are so ignorant that they vote for such taxes without seeing how it will affect them.
Then the local goobermint swaps the old funds which previously paid for for this popular issue into their general funds where it is pissed away in pet projects. Now you have the popular item only funded by this special tax and dependent upon perpetual renewals. The actual result is a less secure source of long term funding for that program - even if there is a short term increase.
It is all a complicated bait and switch scam.
Vote them all down and start watching how your tax money is actually being used and your government is being operated.

Public school system or culture?

The currrent budget is 16 million. The new tax is said to bring in 24 million. Does Hillar Moore need $40 million per year? He gets a shite ton of money from Pre trial diversion money. Voted no.
You need to understand how this will actually be played.
Yes, the DA will get most of the new tax money which is a short term gain, but the parish will quickly shift the old money into the general fund so the DA's office will then be totally dependent on the new tax money for all operating expenses while the parish politicians will enjoy the use of their new play money for years to come.
Suckers...
I have seen this happen many times in the past and this is why I always vote against these schemes - even for items which I really support.
The correct answer is to stop the waste, fraud and abuse which is how so much of government in this state operates.

Please post results when they come out.
I don't live there, but I'm always interested in the public's appetite for tax increases.

The State also kicks in money to the DAs. But I agree, the State will (just like the Parish will do) just take away the money formerly given to the 19th JDC to use in the general fund because now the local property taxpayers are gonna foot the bill.
Did the same shite with lottery and casino money. Use some feel good reason to sell it and then do the money shuffle.

I saw Pat Screen set up a library tax and then shift all of their old money into his slush fund. It was actually not a gain for the libraries after the whole situation played out.
Opened my eyes and I have been against such schemes ever since.
We were particularly annoyed because we had gone out and supported that library tax.

They getting theirs. There’s a reason this is right before assessments. You vote down the mills and they just increase assessments. It’s fricking criminal.

Imagine blaming the schooling instead of your shitty parenting
The party of "personal responsibility" is a facade. You stupid fricks will blame y'all's problems on anyone besides the people actually causing them, like you and your shitty parenting.

This vote was also a census. The “takers” now out number the “makers”

Well was really not concerned with that but that is kinda surprising. Why do you think that is?

People always say this, but it doesn’t actually work like this. The property tax bill comes out in October and must be paid in December. You can’t change the lease terms as soon as it comes out, so it may be near a year before you can go up. And the property taxes slowly go up (like the DA would have rose the bill $40 on a $200k house). Almost all landlords are eating that. They aren’t raising the rent $3.33 a month.

Well i guess then my county property appraiser is not going to like that she has no job.Really their only job is to make more money for the county/city anyway so i'm good with that.

We’ve had 3 property tax renewals the past 2 elections and they all passed. I always vote no for any taxes…don’t understand how people voluntarily want to give the government anymore of their money if they have a choice.

It’s not complicated, when you receive more in freebies than you pay in you’ll vote for every tax measure. For others white guilt leads to the same voting pattern.

I voted no on the DA tax and all the renewals. My wife did the same, which surprised me.
Taxes aren't theft. They're necessary to run a functioning government. But the constant merry go round of taxes being placed on low-turnout elections, prior funding streams being shifted to general funds after new taxes pass, and creeping growth in tax burdens in the face of falling population is exhausting and ridiculous. Until adults run the show and are willing to have honest discussions about real needs and burdens, not just wants, I'm voting no on all taxes and renewals. And i don't care what they are intended to fund.
Also, there should be no more than two (maybe three) voting dates per year (plus runoff dates).
