Worked with guy that failed out of Nichols his first year and went and got one of those certifications. Hung that ITI sheepskin like a PHD from MIT. Then went on to say "I don't need to know anything about construction to manage it"

How many years does he have in? I'm in the same basic field and just took over the operations manager role. Just trying to get a feel for where I'm at and this is the closest comparison I have seen in a while. Not too many like me out there.

Yeah it can be I know. Mine was with a big EPC firm but quickly decided that wasn't for me.

We had lots of PC Managers making big bucks on major infrastructure programs

I work for a full spectrum industrial contractor. PMs here make bank. Idk about the other types, just depends on the company I guess.

I feel like these positions goto traditional engineers (Civil, CE, ME ect.) not CM guys.

Graduated with a CM degree from LSU. Spent 6 years in the field doing industrial projects. Now a project manager and make 150k.

So what do you do? are you just overseeing the labor and keep them in line and making sure deadlines are met?

True. All of my PM's (6 different ones from different projects) have all had engineering backgrounds.

Oversee the progress, making sure we are efficient and on budget. Oversee purchasing, payroll, invoicing, etc. Change orders with clients & billing.
