If you come at me with your drivers license extended don’t even bother going into your sob story about your car is about to be towed from over there unless you can come up with $20 more.

Who the hell sees these guys and says “Well I thought he was scamming me but he showed me his license so I’ll go ahead and hook him up”?

I had a guy in Denham stop me once and pointed to his truck with a woman and a kid in it. He said they were just trying to get enough money for gas to get back to Mississippi. I didn't give him anything.

About a year later, same guy, same story, same damn gas station. I said "y'all haven't made it back to Mississippi yet?"

I just say NO loudly as they head my way. Repeat until they walk in the other direction.

Guy walked up the other night at Albertsons. Tweaker.

Before he could start I said, I'm not interested, have a good night.

You would have thought I said I was gonna sodomize his mother.

Ignore beggars.

Don’t even say no.

Keep walking.

I’ve never dealt with any of the things mentioned itt so far. One of the joys of living in the sticks.

This was an ordinary enough looking guy. I thought he legitimately needed help until I saw the license extended. I wanted to give him $10 if he’d honestly tell me what led to him scamming people in a Walmart parking lot.

You got to watch out for those in BR. I remember a story a couple years back where a dude got stabbed for giving one of them money.

ETA: There is a guy that stands on the same corner on my way to work and he recently changed his sign. It now says "My barber shop is extremely slow due to COVID and I need money to pay rent/support my family. Anything will help." I just saw him and started laughing because he has been on that same corner for 2 years.

Darker fella in a nice car asked me for gas money to get back to Florida in the parking lot of the go-kart track in Biloxi the other night. Told him no cash. He zoomed off to the next person.

Tried the same response to a boy scout walking out of Lowes one time... lil shite hit me with we take cards. Got damn $15 dollar box of uncooked popcorn was the cheapest thing they had.

Ask them for a dollar or more before they start their spiel. It usually takes them by surprise.

I rarely have cash so they'd be SOL if I wanted to give them anything. I don't though.

I'd actually buy someone something to eat if I thought they were legitimately starving but most of them are just junkies and you see the same ones all over town.

When someone is trying to bum money... ask them for money instead. When they ask you say something like “aw man no I’m broke, but I know you got at least a little change, let me hold something”, it throws them off big time and they will leave you alone with the quickness.

This guy asked if I’d mind getting cash back from the store.

I usually just say "are you trying to suck my dick?" That quickly separates the fake homeless from the true homeless.

I normally have no problem just saying no and keep walking. This guy didn’t give off scammer vibes from a distance.

Btw he’s a manager at Dillard’s and lives in Riverbend. His mom does something for the DA maybe, I had stopped listening by then.

I see many of us use the same strategy, I thought I was the only one. It definitely works 100 percent of the time.
