You're looking at between 9000.00 - 16.000 or higher depending on the units you purchase. Higher the seers , higher the price but the higher the efficiency as well. Just my opinion , I don't do A/C work but have been around a long, long time.

I recently had 3 quotes for a 4 ton complete(except new ducts).

5K, 5500, and 5600.

All from friends of the family except the 5K quote.

Most critical thing in converting from freon 22 to freon 410a is to have the copper tubing flushed properly. This is nesessary and adds to the cost!!

Dont call till after 6PM. Why? Because you won't notice your AC is broken till then on a normal day. You want someone who will answer your call after hours. You'll be looking at around $4,500 to replace everything on a 2.5 ton unit. I would change out duct work too on a 12 year old house.

My 3 ton just went out, getting it replaced for $2,500 but I also know a guy.

I recommend Goodman, it will save you money, they are one of the only units still built in the US anymore. They also use a different part in the coil that actually makes them hold up better in a 14 seer system, but it's technical

Also best to change evaporator coil when you are changing your condensing unit at the same time when converting to a 410A system!!

Getting quotes in BR right now for a 2-ton, 14 SEER unit with gas heat. Prices I'm getting are ranging 6300-7200. Any suggestions for a better deal are welcome. What I have received seem higher than what has been posted here for a 2.5-ton unit.

I may just replace inside and out.

You may have to replace both. If your existing system is an R22 system you would have to replace the CU and the AHU. Also, dependent upon the size of existing line set you may have to replace that as well. The operating pressures of R22 and R410A require different line sizes but you can reuse if sizes are close. There are line set flush kits that work well so you can reuse as well. You could also get by changing the CU and the TXV (thermostatic expansion valve) in the AHU but by the time you add the flush/labor/new valve/ and refrirerant you've approached the price of a new AHU.

Has anyone ever used Costco for their AC? I am going to need to replace my unit soon and am not looking forward to this beating everyone is talking about.

Well you are just about right. Got 3 estimates so far. 3900 is the lowest, 12500 the highest including new furnace also. Duct work is fine. Hard duct, no flex.

So many factors unknown but a safe bet would be around 5-6K.

5 ton outside unit replaced 2 weeks ago. $2800 installed so 2.5 ton should be a few hundred less. Luckily my inside unit was compatible to use 410a.
