You could order it yourself and have it installed.

Hardly. It was actually the cheapest quote from a reputable installer. Carrier units were over $12K.
i just had a carrier installed for 3850, rerouted two ducts and new upstairs
12 k for 2.5 is impossible.

There are many "levels" of units from cheap single speed builder grade units that are lower seer to variable speed units with very high seer ratings.

Asking how much for a 2.5 ton is the same as asking how much for a new car or new refrigerator. There are a few more other things that are part of the price.

12.5k is certainly high though.

I had inside and outside replaced, no duct work. 4 ton for $4500 but I knew the guy. It's best to know a guy... but I imagine you could be looking at $3000-$4000 or so depending on what all you're replacing?

Just got an estimate for 2 units. 1.5 ton replaced $4k. 2 ton replaced for $6k. These are Bryant systems. Maybe I should shop a bit.

This.

The Goodman brand (referenced earlier in the thread) is entry level (or "contractor grade"), they are owned by the Japanese firm Daiken but their products are made in the US. If you are going to be in the house three or less years, take the Goodman route. You'll not see the premium in performance over <3 years or from the next home buyer.

For a 14 SEER Goodman 2.5 Ton Compressor & Air Handler installed you should be around $5k-$6k. Every other brand & SEER rating goes up in price from there.

X2. As I said earlier I the thread 9,000.00-16,000.00 depending on the units you choose. And got downvotes 15 times

Goodman

Stay away from this garbage. I was a Goodman (Amana) dealer for 12 years. They failed at an unbelievable rate. Goodman fought me on half of my legitimate warranty claims. They are now Japanese owned. I will never install another.

Well, how much?

On a side note Goodman has a bad reputation because they would sell to anyone. There were a lot of bad installs that caused a lot of failures. Their products have improved lately as well.

Nu Air is who I used. He was cheapest. Edgar is the owners name. He is also the one who installed it.

The coils outside are the "condensing coils" and the ones inside your house/air handler are the "evaporating coils." At least learn the proper names so the methy installers don't think they are all entitled to an extra $5k for the job and a month long binge after each install.

You're looking at between 9000.00 - 16.000 or higher depending on the units you purchase. Higher the seers , higher the price but the higher the efficiency as well. Just my opinion , I don't do A/C work but have been around a long, long time.

This is fricking criminal right here. Wow.

I just had to replace the air handler in my house.. Condenser is still good..16seer, 4ton, variable speed Rheem for $4400..I also had 3 drop downs added.. one in 2 bathrooms and one in the laundry room. Felt like a good deal after a place told me $6300 for all that.

Seems like this summer is getting a lot of people!
