I will have to replace my outside unit since it went out Saturday. I may just replace inside and out. What price should I expect? My current unit is from 2005.

I had 2 new 2.5 ton units installed last year (inside and out) for $8600. Trane units.

About the cost of an average used car.

really depends on how difficult the install is and also what all needs to be replaced (i.e. new ductwork, etc.)...

Do yourself a favor and make sure Central Heating and Air is one of the quotes you receive

Hardly. It was actually the cheapest quote from a reputable installer. Carrier units were over $12K.

Just call around. Prices will be all over the place. Guys that are really busy will give you the 'frick you' price, others who have the Human Resources of a larger company will probably end up significantly cheaper, but even that can be reversed some times.

Get 3 estimates and post them here.

Otherwise, what the hell we talkin' bout?

You have no choice but to replace the inside and the outside. Package deal, man. Fitment wise.
