4" thick and make sure they use 3/4 inch rebar 12" on center. We got quotes for an approx 500sq ft patio slab a few months ago. $4k was cheapest. $6500k was next quote. We went with cheapest and actually trying to get the guy to come do the work was a nightmare. He kept postponing for months. Finally told him to forget it and went with Belgard pavers as the Paver company's quote was $6k. It looks a lot nicer and it won't ever crack. Came with 15 yr warranty too.
I'm in TX so your mileage may vary, but frick concrete prices.

4 inch minimum and you can figure around $5-6 sqft formed, poured and finished

Probably get it done for less than a grand going the way I mentioned, widened my driveway that way

Goose, I am in Cenla and might be looking into adding on to our patio. Is this in your wheelhouse?

Thickness should equal dick size. 2 inches sounds about right for you. 4 should be minimum. $12-14 per square foot typically.

Won't ever crack?? Did they guarantee that? It's gonna crack at some point.

There are concrete panels on old US Hwy 90 by the Rigolets that were placed around 1930 on top of coffee grounds reclaimed marsh that haven’t cracked.
They had 20 feet of water on them in ‘47 and Katrina.
Why a specific section of concrete doesn’t crack can sometimes be as complex an answer as the reasons another section fails.
tl/dr: Don’t ever say “All concrete cracks.” UR dum if you do.

I went with pavers. No, they shouldn't crack and if they do, yes, they'll replace it.

12'x40' = 480 sq ft
Regular concrete slab will cost you about $6-10 a sq ft. Depending on how much leveling needs to be done, if you want rebar, how far the concrete needs to be moved.....
So you looking at $2800-4800.

Please don't put 3/4" rebar in 4" thick concrete for a patio.

It's going to hurt for sure. I can probably have sections of it patched and get another 5-7 years.

quote:You do not need rebar in a patio. Just make sure they score it every 5-8 feet. When the concrete cracks (it will) the cracks will occur in the score joints and you won’t see them.

Also, put vizqueen under and make sure the brush it. You dont want a slick arse sweaty slab that you going to bust your arse on.

Just find some local mob guys. Tell them they can bury some bodies there and they will pour the concrete for free

All the quotes I got included rebar and 3000+ PSI concrete... Maybe b/c we're on clay soil up here in N. Texas and shifting occurs?

Right now concrete is selling for $104 cubic yard delivered.
