They fought it because to get a DUI erased from your record cost close to $10K. In NR, DUI’s and MIP’s were never about safety and all about money.
Politicians fight the ride sharing because (1) they cant sell cab medallions for $$$$ and (2) the elected Sheriffs & Clerk of Courts weren't getting that sweet DWI income for their budgets.
never is and never was about public safety

a cop can arrest you on suspicion even if you blow all zeroes. All they have to say is the breathalyzer showed no alcohol readings but you really F'ed up the field sobriety test and therefore must be on something. So they arrest you anyway and down the $10k rabbit hole you go.
when I was in HS, got pulled over on way to school by dickhead state police bc I had a dealer tag on my truck. Cop claimed it was a fake and suggested I stole it. He smelled toothpaste on my breath and gave a breathalyzer. When it showed zeroes, he made me do it again, then gave a field test. Then suggested I was on something because I was using mouthwash to cover my breath...at 745 on a wednesday morning at 16 yrs old. Cuffs me, we go to county, and I call my dad at work. He calls his friend the Sheriff, they both come to station and confront the MHP dick. Hilarity ensues.

Or the stories about BRPD hanging out in Southdowns waiting for people to leave the Bulldog.
I don't live in BR anymore and have 'aged out' of the frequent bar hopping crowd, but is the Bulldog still packed on Wednesdays and weekends? 7-8 years ago, it was the place to be but I don't read much about it on here anymore. Is it still a hotspot?
On another note, I'd love to see a recent pic of that girl (now a woman) that is/was on the Bulldog advertising with the purple Tiger claw on her face and the huge, uh, hmmm, smile that has become synonymous with their branding. I wonder how she turned out.

Great question. Wednesday was pint night.
You’re right. It’s rarely if ever mentioned on here anymore. Wonder why?

Now that you mention it, I don’t hear about the check points like I used to. Or the stories about BRPD hanging out in Southdowns waiting for people to leave the Bulldog.
Because they got tired of running checkpoints that didn’t net any arrests since all they were doing was stopping uber/lyft drivers.
No federal/MADD grants either without results.

You know that has to be frustrating for the poor 'ole, hard working 'task force' that was banking 30+ hours of OT a week just to flash their light in cars and then lead drivers to the bus that was parked next to CC's on Perkins. Making $200k/year for directing traffic, letting the drunks come to them instead of actively policing.
Now, the Uber driver would just be shaking his head while the drunks in the passenger seats laugh and reminisce on all the shots they've taken that night.

They'll say that because they can't fleece as many youthful DWI offenders with higher premiums, they have to charge everybody else more to break even.

If it was all about stopping people from drinking and driving, why were ride share services fought by politicians and policemen alike when they have proven to decrease dangerous behaviors?
And if drinking and driving is so dangerous (it is) you shouldn’t just be able to pay a fine and get out of it

Phoenix city council just slapped a huge fee on Uber and Lyft rides from Sky Harbor..... right after the Arizona voters forbade it via Constitutional amendment.
Hopefully Uber and Lyft dont back down and tell PHX to go frick themselves with a teddy bear cholla.

100% true. Years ago, I knew a girl that had 1 or 2 beers over the course of a night, drove us all home hours later, then got pulled over and arrested for DWI on her way home. She's one of the most innocent and law abiding girls you'll ever meet. I think she blew a .02 but the cop said she 'appeared impaired' and arrested her. She did the Article 894 thing because it was cheapest and easiest way to get it over with. Again, this is a girl that NEVER touched drugs and hardly drank at all. Truly an injustice at the discretion of the arresting officer.
It may be a little different these days with body cams and such, but I doubt it. All that have to say is that they suspect you're impaired and you're taking a ride to EBRPP.

We still didn’t get an answer about the Bulldog being a hotspot. Does it deserve its own thread?

Well, we're screwed here because of our litigious dredges of society. Getting in a wreck is an opportunity and you gotta cash in. They truly see it as that and that view is never going to change for some of our fine citizens.

I know. Us old farts need answers. I really want to know the answer of my 2nd question about the fine as girl in the advertisements with the purple claw 'tattoo' on her cheek. How did she age? Like fine wine or beef jerky?

It used to take an hour plus for a cab back in the day, sometimes they just didn't show up. So basically a tech company came in and provided better transportation than the capital of our state ever could and the dwis have dropped.
No fricking shite.
No fricking shite.
