In this story from yesterday Beau Clark said the infant had not tested positive for “COVID-19, but the hospital is working to confirm the results of her test. He and the state’s epidemiologists agree this is a COVID-related death.” That sounds to me like they are stretching to up the numbers. WAFB

Obviously but teen mothers have higher risk of preterm labor, no? What if the mom was obese or had hypertension? Just curious as to why they say “obviously” it’s from the virus.
I just find it weird to assume this. Again, it’s tragic no matter the reason.

The coroner and a doctor say the cause of death is X....which leads me to believe that they are both lying...

Do we calculate flu deaths the same way?
As in if anything happens to a person with the flu we count it as a flu death.

I have no idea how flu deaths are counted — if I died in a car accident and had the flu, how would they list it? No clue.

Oh I’m not joking. I promise. I think it’s terribly sad. As a mom it breaks my heart. My nephew was born at 28 weeks and that was some scary stuff.
22 weeks is way early — someone asked how survivable that is and I truly don’t know.
I hope that the mother pulls through.

The insanity of counting any death as a corona virus death must stop.
It is tragic that the baby died, but at 22 weeks, it had less than a 1 in 10 chance of surviving. So the baby wasn't tested so far and they say -- gotta be the Covid? “The baby, because of the extreme prematurity did not survive,” said East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Beau Clark.
Dr. Birx, the scarf sporting, blonde at the White House pressers, said today that all deaths with anyone with corona virus is counted as a corona virus death. So if someone is electrocuted, they go on the corona virus tally. That's stupid.

My niece was born at 28 weeks; other than spending her first eight weeks in NICU, she did fine. She's 11 now, and is doing well. I was born at 29 weeks and I'm fine. I had some early bumps in the road with some long hospital stays, but I'm as well as ever. They are definitely stretching for sure.

22 weeks is the cutoff of viability and resuscitation is not routinely performed less than that. Even with everything, the mortality is still somewhere around 50% and morbidity is insanely high

Someone said on tv today that if the person has the virus when they die, that’s how they are assigning cause of death. No matter what. Dude with CV jumps off a 20th story bridge and splats, chalk one up to the Kung flu.
