The Florida Bar is investigating its president, longtime West Palm Beach criminal defense attorney Michelle Suskauer, after a federal judge alerted the agency that she may have let a disbarred lawyer represent one of her clients.
U.S. District Judge James Cohn told Suskauer this week that he would contact the Bar after one of her clients told him that disbarred lawyer John Garcia met with him, sat at the defense table when he took a plea deal and handled all the details of his wire fraud case.
“Certainly his role was more than that of a paralegal,” Cohn said after looking at dozens of emails Garcia exchanged with accused fraudster Anthony D’Amico. “And he had direct client contact, which is prohibited by the Florida Bar. And it is a serious allegation.” “Quite honestly,” Cohn continued, “the Florida Bar needs to take a look at this, and I plan to refer it to the Florida Bar.”

I’d be unethical with her.

If there’s one thing I know for absolute certain, it’s never trust an attorney with the last name of Suskauer.

Yeah but does she steal the other bartenders tips at their bar events?

This smells like a client grasping at straws to avoid prison.
I think this all has to do with withdrawing a guilty plea.

I was proud of their diversity.

Bar rules that attorneys must follow when dealing with disbarred lawyers. For instance, lawyers much file quarterly reports that include statements that none of a disbarred attorney’s work involved the unlicensed practice of law and that the former lawyer had no direct contact with clients, according to the Bar’s website.
Suskauer said she wasn’t familiar with the rules but was convinced that neither she nor Garcia violated them.
“Well, perhaps you should acquaint yourself with Florida Bar Rule of Professional Conduct 3-6.1(d)(2),” Cohn said. “I think you may come away with a different opinion.”

i agree
BUT
he seems to have stumbled upon a legit issue for his former attorney. he likely even knew what the deal was, but that's only relevant to the plea issue and the attorney is in serious shite
hell that dibarred attorney was finally KO'd because he continued to practice after being suspended

I’ve been told that the judge ripped into her for like 20 minutes on the record. I think she’s in a bit of trouble.
I’d love to know how much she charged this guy in order to just take a plea. I bet it was $50k -$75k plus the $10k extra for the disbarred “federal court expert” guy.
