It’ll be interesting to see the bodycam video.

The kid was killed because he allegedly pointed a pistol at an officer.

But, what led to that?

Per the article, the police breached the front door, and proceeded down a “very long hallway”. I’m guessing it was a shotgun style house.

Even if they were constantly shouting that they were police, (and the bodycam video should prove/disprove it) someone on the far end of the house can wake up from commotion (door being broken, shouting), be disoriented, and think it’s a home invasion.

Perfectly reasonable. If someone bashed my front door in at 0400 and barged in shouting, I’d be grabbing a pistol as well.

The real cherry on top is the guy they sent a bunch of wannabe SEALS after on a commando raid walked up , handed them his license, and peacefully surrendered. Most guys in his shoes would’ve seen the police presence, turned around, and walked away.

So what is the end result? A dead kid and a bunch of cops who came back with nothing they went there for.

ETA: if this didn’t happen often, there would be less of a discussion. However we hear about botched nighttime raids far to often

People here think putting on a uniform gives you a license to kill apparently. These people will be the most surprised when the police stop by to take their guns because "its the law."

It's ignorant, bc I can't tell if it's an illegal gang or a legal gang when somebody kicks my door in a 4am.

Here is the part I don’t understand.

They are there to search for the guy and drugs. Police chief said in the article they take ample precautions to make sure the individuals inside are awake and alert to to the police who will be coming inside your home, yet they don’t even give you enough time to get out of bed before they kick your door in.

And yeah, as I said earlier good luck identifying who is actually there when you get blinded by their strobing streamlight.

How do I know what that’s like? I have a streamlight attached to my PDW just like they do. And let me tell you, when that sucker is going whoever is in front of you can’t see shite

Cops have low standards. When I was in college I lived in a duplex and was coming home at 5am to cops everywhere. They stopped me before I could drive up to my place, surrounded me with guns, checked my ID, told me to wait so all I could do was watch.

They not only busted down my neighbor's door no-knock style, and not only was he not there, but THEY SHOT THE STREET LIGHTS OUT. It was truly bizarre. They cleared the scene 30 minutes later and the street lights were busted still when I moved out 5 months later. I never saw the neighbor again. Had to get weed somewhere else.

That's how it's supposed to work.

We were taught as young kids, you NEVER point anything at a police officer. Kid was a dumbass and his demise was his own fault. He's 16, not 6, so I don't feel any sympathy for his dumbass.

Agreed. What I have a problem with is putting the cop in a position where he has to kill a teenager because he was defending himself. Like you said, at the officer level, its a "good shoot." At the system level, no one had to die yesterday over pot possession. Tragic

Well said.

Could be a good warrant and legal shot but a pre dawn raid without knowing who is in the house is by definition seeking shock and surprise and that results in deaths in both sides. The weight of making that kind of call should be much higher than it is.

Are you really this ignorant or do you just love that boot taste? You can positively identify a cop the instant they kick in your door and start invading your home?

Right? Cops killed a kid and stopped 3 people from laughing that day.

Bottom line, no matter how old you are, when ever you pull out a gun and point it at an individual , cop or terrorist , you must start shooting to win. Anything else is suicide by cop.

What kind of neighborhoods do you frickers live in? Having anybody, let alone cops, kick my door in during the middle of the night is completely foreign to me.

Why are cops just allowed to raid houses when they aren't even sure the suspect was in there?

Judges give them that ability after they establish probable cause

Live in a nice neighborhood. Occasionally get a whiff of Marijuana smell when I’m on my back patio. Wonder if they will get raided if I call the cops.

I mean how fricking stupid is it to raid a home due to marijuana . Unless they were planning on recovering 10’s to 100’s of pounds of this stuff and half a million dollars, everyone should be fired.

You would think that would be the case. However there wasn’t even enough weed in the house to warrant a possession with intent to distribute
