Pounding rains force millions of gallons of raw sewage to spill from L.A. County sewers

Heavy rains pummeling Southern California for the last several days are forcing millions of gallons of raw sewage to spew from sewer connections across Los Angeles County and flow into coastal waters off Long Beach and San Pedro, according to health and sanitation officials.
As communities throughout the Los Angeles Basin cope with mudflows, power outages and flooding, county sanitation crews have struggled to contain multiple sewage spills that have sent waste flowing down major streets and into storm drain systems leading to environmentally sensitive Cabrillo Beach and the Port of Los Angeles, among other locations.

On Tuesday, sewage escaped through manhole covers near the Port of Long Beach and in Whittier, about 20 miles from downtown Los Angeles. County sanitation officials were still trying to quantify the amount of sewage that leaked into storm drains before the spill was contained.
On Monday, a far larger spill occurred in the unincorporated community of Rancho Dominguez, about 10 miles north of Long Beach. An estimated 8 million gallons overflowed manholes and streamed into storm drains that empty into the Dominguez Channel, which terminates at Cabrillo Beach, Langpap said.
On Tuesday the Los Angeles County Sanitation agreed to pay a $6 million fine for a large spill they had in 2021.

But the most egregious violation occurred in Carson during a rainstorm in December 2021, when a mainline ruptured, sending raw sewage into a residential neighborhood, down storm drains and into the Dominguez Channel before emptying into the Pacific Ocean.
LA sanitation makes the NOSWB look good

How can they tell the difference between the sewer shite in the street and the hobo shite in the street?

I'm so glad I've divested all of my L.A. County real estate. I'm surprised the Hyperion treatment facility near Dockweiler Beach is still going.
I used to run that way on the beach path sometimes and they have a shite pipe that feeds directly into the ocean.
Used to boggle my mind that one of the most prime beachfront real estate locations in SoCal was being used as a water treatment facility.

Sewer shite flows uphill. Hobo shite flows downhill.

“LA sewers can’t keep up with climate change”
The propaganda never ends.

The Hyperion plant is fricking amazing. It treats a tremendous amount of sewage every day. Or in this case, most days.
If you take a dump in L.A. county, eventually Hyperion treats your shite.
Sidenote: That place smelled horrible. Like 10 or 12 million people crapped. I wouldn't want to live nearby.

frick yeah, it's nasty and it's right by Dockweiler State Beach. When I'd go for a 3 mile run, I'd go north up to Dockweiler. When I'd go 6 miles, I'd go south to Manhattan Beach pier.
