We had something like that in NELA when I was a teen in the 80s. Highway 165 was completely shut down with something like an inch or more of ice covering it so we rode our 3-wheelers to it and did donuts on it all day.

In 1994 we tried to get north of it to my grandparents in Arkansas cause my dad knew we would be without power for a long time and all we had was one kerosene heater, no fireplace. The ice built up so fast we started seeing trees break and power lines sagging and transformers blowing my dad turned around before we made it 30 min up the road. We were stuck at home for 5-6 days burning farm diesel in that heater living in the living room only, cooked on grill and heated pots of water to fill tub for bathing. Finally the roads were cleared where we could leave and went to Arkansas until we heard they got the power on. Living so far in the country they came out there last, as the focus was on towns and highways first.

I don’t know how much ice it was, but I remember icicles so big if one fell on you pretty sure it could kill you

I was in jr high when that hit the Memphis area. I remember hearing the limbs cracking and I knew we would be without power soon.

We camped out in the living room, but unfortunately we didn’t have any kind of heat. I remember playing cards at night and I became pretty good at playing blackjack.

Either snow, sleet, or warm up enough to rain. Just don’t do the silly thing where it comes down as liquid and freezes on contact.

Saturday shows 15 for the high with snow, at the top of the Texas panhandle where I live. Cold but not unusual for this area. Have a diesel truck with a block heater, no issues for me.

On a goose hunt in west Texas one time it was 19 with calm wind. The humidity was so low I was comfortable with just a fleece jacket.

Why? What do you think will prevent that?
