The Galápagos Islands, 700 miles west of the coast of Ecuador, are directly south of New Orleans.

There are ~ 250,000 described species of plants and only ~ 4,000 described species of mammals. However, there are over 350,000 beetle species described, with more beetles being discovered every year.

Chuck Conners not only played the Rifleman...he was a MLB baseball player, playing for the Dodgers and the Cubs, and ABA (prior to joining the NBA) basketball player with the Celtics.
As a baseball player, he was an intermediary to end the 1966 contract dispute between the Dodgers, Don Drysdale and Sandy Koufax.
He was also the first pro player credited with shattering a backboard, but it was from a jumpshot that hit a glass backboard that was improperly installed.

Hall-of-famer Eddie Murray hit home runs from BOTH SIDES of the plate, in the same game, 12 times in his career.
I saw Chipper Jones do this in person once.
So I researched it and he did it 7 times. Not as rare as you'd think either.

FCC assigns radio and TV stations with call signs which start with K for those west of the Mississippi and W for those east of it. There are a few stations with call signs grandfathered in before the rule came into effect.
However LSU's college radio station (KLSU) technically violates the rule and was not the beneficiary of the grandfather clause. It wanted WLSU but that call sign was already taken, the FCC decided to grant an exemption since the station is only a mile from the river, so it could have LSU in its call sign.

I thought it was because KLSU's antenna tower was on the west side of the Miss R.

It might be, but per Wikipedia they wanted WLSU, so maybe the plan was to have it on the east side until TBR complained about the ITEP exemption

It was WLSU for a long time and then they found out that a station in LaCrosse was using it. Then they changed it to WPRG (for "progressive") and then eventually to KLSU.
ETA: as I recall, it originally was an AM station and the signal was injected into the AC power on campus. Therefore you had to be on campus to listen to it. When they applied for an FCC license to go over the air is when it was discovered that another station was using those call letters.

Also, Tahoe is Washoe for "the lake", so Lake Tahoe actually means "Lake The Lake", and so you're repeating yourself.
Scampi is Italian for shrimp. Shrimp scampi is shrimp shrimp
Pilaf is Turkish for rice. Rice pilaf is rice rice.

Agree, probably not too many...but that's the point...hoping they'll go Google this stuff now and see what's clear as day.

"Bogue" is an Indian word for river or creek. So Bogue Chitto River is River Chitto River and Bogue Lusa Creek is Creek Lusa Creek.

Idaho doesn't mean anything. A lobbyist for the Legislature claimed it was a Shoshone Indian word. He later admitted he completely made it up. But by then the name had stuck.
