Congrats on moving to the Mecca/Mother Land

I lived in Buckhead and enjoyed it. Virginia Highlands is really nice, and Midtown is too but has tons of gays there.

I'm telling you VA Highlands is the move.

That's my close second, but I really like being in Walking distance from 30 or so bars, and I like the bar scene more at Buckhead than the Virginia Highlands. If being within walking distance of multiple bars isn't a concern of yours, I'd go with Virginia Highlands as well.

Sandy Springs off of Johnson Ferry or Riverside Dr.

Unless you have a family, no way in hell would I recommend here.

Just about anywhere near Perimeter Center in either Dunwoody or Sandy Springs is better than all but the best neighborhoods in Louisiana. It's lush, clean, and well landscaped. You're right around GA ST HWY 400, which runs you right up into the Appalachians for great week-end trips. I lived there for a year and the only thing I missed about home was the food- the restaurant scene is dominated by chains that serve food that just isn't up to our standards. However, if you make the move, find and frequent Fat Matt's bbq. Great music and great food.
edit: I lived off of Asbury, right off of Peachtree/Dunwoody. Great location that's convenient to everything.
edit 2: Seriously, my wife and I constantly said that there was no way we'd ever come back if my job there wasn't a temporary training period preceding a move to an office in NOLA. Driving back into LA (I-10 through NO East in particular) was like entering a third-world country.

Only heard good things about this place. Will check it out.

I don't know much about the area, but on a few trips to Atlanta we stayed in Alpharetta. Very nice area - everything looked new there. Really enjoyed staying there. The drive into Atlanta was short, but I have no idea how it is during peak traffic hours.

For gosh sakes no.
Find an apartment as close to your office as you can. There are lots of nice ones right at Perimeter Center.
You don't want to spend time driving if you don't have to. Lots of bars and restaurants in that area.

Buckhead or Brookhaven sounds ideal for you. You're going against traffic for the most part and you're really close to the bar scene. I would say the highlands is too far when you have just as good of options much closer.

I agree for the most part, but why not be right at PC? Plenty of good places to go where you can walk to and possibly walk to work. Explore and branch out from there.

I am in Brookhaven. It has it's pros and cons. You don't feel like you're in the city, nice and clean, safe. However, we feel like the only people without kids, not many options when it comes to bars and restaurants ( we have been to most of them in 6 months). I would recommend it if you are looking for more of a neighborhood instead of am apartment.
