It's a sensory deprivation tank.

Could some of these punks start some decent bands and save rock music again?

I think the whole city has been in a common sense deprivation tank.

With the economy booming the way it is, you’d think homelessness would not be such a big problem. There are more jobs than people wanting them.
So if economic hardship isn’t driving homelessness, that leaves the question of what is driving this problem? The answer, I’m my opinion at least, is multifaceted...
1. Drugs, specifically the explosion of heroin & meth.
2. Progressives creating environments in the cities they run that foster and enable junkies’ behavior. By this I mean not enforcing petty crime laws and even going so far as to give them free needles to do their drugs.
3. Open borders, which falls under progressives as well, that allow massive amounts of illegal drugs to flood into our country.
The solution to all this is simple.
1. Start locking up people for petty crimes
2. Enforce loitering laws
3. Stop enabling drug addicts
4. Secure the border to choke off the supply of drugs.

Just downtown, and the cops are usually pretty good about keeping them out of the tourist and entertainment/restaurant spots.

Holy crap, are all the liberal cities going to turn into San Francisco? Sad to see another beautiful city bite the dust.
Yes, as long as they keep voting in liberals to run things.

True. But in the early 90's every kid with a guitar and a smack habit found their way to Seattle. The crowd there is a bit older in general now.

I will say they do a decent job of that given the amount of homeless there, I only almost had to kick one guy's arse while I was there recently, the PCH looks like a KOA going through town with all of the homeless suburbs set up though, those bums have some pretty nice looking tents

It’s not just Portland, it’s all the big west coast cities. Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Sacramento, LA, and San Diego all have massive homeless populations.

Not really. But It could get there. It's pretty easy to avoid the craziness if you want to...
The impacts are real, but it's so common for everyone on this site to pretend Paris is one large refugee camp, Munich is mostly jihadis and Portland is wall-to-wall drug users and homeless.
You can go to pretty much any place discussed on here, and without really trying, avoid seeing ANY of the blight.
