What's he famous for?
He was a great theologian for our day and his books on the life of Jesus Christ has been commented on positively by many protestant leaders and theologians.
But he will be famous for being the first pope to step down in 600yrs.

Any thoughts on why he was deposed?
This is probably the best explanation regarding the events leading up to Benedicts resignation

Can you list 1 or 2 reasons?
Pathetic

Gonna be interesting to see how they do the funeral with a Pope presiding over it.

Ratzinger was head of DDF under John Paul - the purpose of which is to defend catholic doctrine. His nickname was god's rottweiler. He was very strict and very conservative. He was old and overwhelmed with the problems in the church; the bullshite going on in the Vatican bank, the scale of the sex crimes and then realizing he was too old to confront it all when someone on the inside leaked a bunch of his personal stuff. He was the first Pope to try to clean up the shite show. He defrocked something like 400 priests and he tried to undo the fraud system in the Bank (Italian authorities started seizing illegal bank funds) Ultimately he realized he couldn't deal with the magnitude of the problem so he threw in the towel, retired, and wrote a paper later saying the church was wrecked basically.

Can you list 1 or 2 reasons?
1. Archbishop Vigano appointed by Benedict exposing corruption in the Vatican Bank- slush funds all over the place
2. Another investigation initiated by Benedidict led by 3 trusted Cardinals which exposed moral corruption within the Vatican hierarchy
With the pressure of the corrupt forces within the Vatican and as an 86 year old he did not have the energy to address the corruption within the Vatican and lead the Catholic Church in this world.
The concodrum of his resignation is that his replacement would be chosen but the corrupt hierarchy.

Other than being the first Woke Pope
You’re way, way, WAY off the mark. Pope Benedict XVI was a very traditional pope. One of his first acts was a mutu propio allowing for the celebration of the traditional mass at a priests discretion. No longer requiring bishop approval.
Benedict was probably best known for his intellect. He was a very deep thinker and his writings on Jesus Christ will stand through the ages.

Went to see Pope Benedict today. Incredibly intense. Time was not kind to the man as he certainly looked ill. The Basilica was beautiful.
