I’m waaay out of the loop on the Oprah/Rock Muaii Fires thing. Why are people upset with them? Is it simply because they’re rich?

The quick rundown of this thread...More so because they're on the Left.

People really do think that Oprah was in cahoots to start the fires, people in this thread have said it.

Some are also criticizing that she only donated $5mil, which is odd for folks who donate $0 to criticize those who donate.

It was pointed out with the Jerry Lewis telethons, the telethons after Katrina, etc where no one ever had an issue with celebrities asking us regular folks to donate, but now that Oprah is doing it, it's a huge issue and some dispicable act on her part.

I've donated exactly $0, so it's obviously not me or anyone urging others to donate. It's just more that if you're not donating, it's a bit odd to come out blasting someone who did donate and is seemingly trying to get others to donate too, just like it's been done a bunch of times in the past.

I’m no Oprah fan but they donated $5 million of their own money and entitled neighbors think they are owed more just bc they have more?

Not sure why you are equating this with the Rock and Opra thing. Jerry Lewis donated his time to MDA and was its national chairman. Jerry Lewis did not overnight create a charity out of a recent tragedy. In fact, the telecast began 16 years after MDA was created.

As to Dolly Parton, I am not familiar with her fund and whether it was a good steward of that money. I am familiar with her Foundation that has a pretty good track record though.

Outside of the pissyness here, why would people trust the Rock and Oprah with their donations in the first place? That's where all of this should have started and ended. Blindly donating to something called the People's Fund of Maui (sounds like George's the Human Fund or a communist collective) seems risky at best. I'm not aware of any verifiable track record that qualifies them to undertake this type of thing, certainly not something of this scale. Why the people of Hawaii have to be the lab rats to see if they are actually able to put together an actual plan to help people that truly need it seems unnecessarily reckless and stupid.

Exactly.

What the frick does that have to do with anything when this "debate" started a couple weeks ago the first thing people did was attempt to compare Oprah to Dolly?

I was answering 87's question to me, and I've explained my comment twice. You can relax now.

I'm not the one being hypocritical. People can ask for money however and whenever they want. I pointed out why fewer people want to give it to them now.

The loathing that NORMALS have for Ruling Class elites is the worst in my lifetime. People see billionaires getting preachy and look in their pantry and can't afford a family vacation and want to punch a phony celebrity right in the birth canal.

Help for what? Weird to say I'm contrarian while you have no clue if I'm wrong here. But so you know, i'm not. I'm factually correct.

I’ve literally NEVER seen someone go so hard in the paint to try to hammer home a point on tigerdroppings. Never. Not SFP, not Lester Earl, not any of the tards on the rant, etc.. it’s so important to you that everyone acknowledges that you are right and that your debate skills can’t be fricked with… you’ve gone on for 9 pages now.

So yea, you might be right, but holy hell dude, let it fricking go.

It's very simple, you're way overthinking it.

That's it.

Most people kinda liked Oprah at one time or another. I think that the possibility of her being a groomer for Harvey has put her in a different light for most people.

Buddy, you’re one of the most perpetually derided posters on this site. I think it is safe to say that you’re wrong more often than not.

Her crying about people being mean to her is hilarious, though.

Far from crying about people being mean. Translation: Online bullies can drive young kids to insanity, but thankfully I'm inoculated from the bull shite because I'm better than all of you.
