So now we've moved to "who cares about the people of Hawaii, they're not THAT important" to make your point?

What about Katrina, tons of celebrities went on TV to get money, did the OT have a big problem with that?

Like I said on a previous page, Katrina was almost 20 years ago. 9/11 longer ago than that. Americans' attitudes are much different these days.

They are less trusting of the media and government than ever before, and they have been boned by large fundraising organizations recently. It's not difficult to figure out why many might have a problem with it.

Now explain why people don’t mind Dolly asking for money but do mind Oprah asking for money

I've only spoken on facts.

You already admitted you had no clue what was going on in this thread and you spoke solely on emotions.

But again, you seem to not let facts get in the way of your nonsensical agendas, so I know you won't care about the above facts either, even though you quite literally already admitted to it. It is what it is.

Again, Dolly asked for money 7 years ago.

Also, Oprah throughout her career has been a more polarizing personality than Dolly. Notice how Dwayne Johnson isn't the focal point of many posts?

Is there a statute of limitations of when it's okay to do it and when it's not?

C'mon man, that's clearly not what I'm saying. The world is much different today than it was 7 years ago.

This country is more charitable than anybody, yet donations declined last year to their lowest point since the mid 90s. With people's bills growing higher, they are less willing to hand over their money to people or organizations they don't trust.

Outside of the pissyness here, why would people trust the Rock and Oprah with their donations in the first place? That's where all of this should have started and ended. Blindly donating to something called the People's Fund of Maui (sounds like George's the Human Fund or a communist collective) seems risky at best. I'm not aware of any verifiable track record that qualifies them to undertake this type of thing, certainly not something of this scale. Why the people of Hawaii have to be the lab rats to see if they are actually able to put together an actual plan to help people that truly need it seems unnecessarily reckless and stupid.

What the frick does that have to do with anything when this "debate" started a couple weeks ago the first thing people did was attempt to compare Oprah to Dolly? That has been a central part of this bullshite from the start despite the FACT that both went about raising funds the exact same way.

Just don't be hypocritical, that's all.

Some folks are being hypocritical and basically saying it was ok to ask for money any other time except for now which is silly.

But CAD wasn't hypocritical about Dolly, he just flat out lied and said she did the complete opposite of what she actually did.

hmm, does seem to be a double standard.

I’m waaay out of the loop on the Oprah/Rock Muaii Fires thing. Why are people upset with them? Is it simply because they’re rich?

I think the difference is probably how the native islanders view outsiders. Especially one who owns large tracts on their island and how it was acquired. Right or wrong, people seem a little cynical of Oprah and her "charity".
