My actual expenses every month, not including unexpected stuff, is close to $7K. Combined my wife and I make less than $150K gross. So there's not much wiggle room for any additional savings outside of retirement funds. I've picked up a second job just to try and enable us to have some savings. It's absolutely rough out here.

mortgage 2200
credit card 300
car 480
car insurance 250
elec 350
water/sewage 80
internet 80
cell phone 120
subscriptions 150
tithe 900
groceries 800
restaurants 300
pet expenses 75
kid expenses 250
life insurance 100
fuel 150
kids college 200
Total 6785

Well go then. Seems pretty important to you. I don’t care if you blow $1500 to see millionaires play a game. I think it’s stupid though. You do you.

Maybe so. My frugal ways do still influence me even though I don’t have to. So, good point.

Maybe so.

The truth, most Southerners are 2-3 generations from being dirt farmers. Most of us grew up in modest surroundings.

Growing up "poor" or in a modest environment is a blessing for people with drive and initiative.

that’s quite possible

When I was a kid, our only ‘vacation’ was going to see my grandma in Texas. My husband grew up alternating between going to Disney World one year and then the country where his mother was from the next.

Of course his mom always complained they didn’t have money when my husband was young - but I don’t find they had a bad lifestyle.

What is it for people with no drive or initiative that end up being alcoholics that don’t hold steady employment and leave their family?
