I think you had a better than normal upbringing. That’s great but it does skew your perceptions of normal both in the past and present.

I get inflation. It’s always there. Sometimes high and sometimes low. But inflation is not the holy grail of metrics unless you are talking about hyperinflation.

I’ve been in or around the accounting world for nearly 2 decades, including being on the board for two universities in Louisiana. LSU-S is no better than 4th in the state as far as accounting schools, in a state that doesn't have great accounting schools

I did.

But my parents and my wife’s parents had extremely average upbringings and they both experienced several weekend regional vacations growing up. Their parents (our grandparents) all had average careers.

Again, at what point was it abnormal for Americans to travel regionally for vacation? You keep saying it wasn’t normal back then. When is then?

These guys tell you how everyone is lazy and nothing is wrong and it’s all individuals fault in these threads and then write manifestos on the poli board about the end of American society and don’t realize they’re contradiction themselves.

You will own nothing and be happy USED to be a pejorative phrase on this board.

Inflation was a convenient talking point until Trump won. Now it’s back to bootstraps, avocado toast, and Netflix.

Bro you are forgetting the hands down number 1 reason why people can’t afford a house these days and it’s literally right in front of your face.

They always make it so personal

We’re not saying we should be able to vacation whenever and wherever we want

We’re just observing how brutal it’s become. I don’t want to America to be a place where you have to make a high income, statistically speaking, to be able to bring your kids to Houston for a baseball game

Well it also depends on how often you vacation and where you vacation and it defines what you think is normal. You state you had a better than normal upbringing. Your opinion is clouded.

Of course it’s not abnormal to go on a vacation. It’s not normal how people vacation today. Got an invitation to a destination wedding….on the other side of the planet! Not going. My dental hygienist had a destination wedding to some island in the Caribbean. Now her friend has a destination wedding in Costa Rica that she is going too. That’s not normal vacation/travel for their occupations and for the past.

Sorry you feel in “survival mode”. All I can say is make more money or spend less. Money isn’t everything you know.

Bro is acting like my 3 night trip to small town georgia is equivalent to spending a week on the French Riviera.

Can someone pull up the thread where roger claimed he built his own house by himself in his spare time as a college student? I’m 99% sure he said that was in Baton Rouge while attending the real LSU.

Working on it, but he did reference this the other day as luck would have it. Not only did he build his own house from nothing but books, but his entire family did the same!

Correct. sold it and lived on it for two years when I moved to Alaska. Its carpentry. Men can do that (you excluded of course) My youngest daughter and her husband did the same. As did my ex father in law. Thats who I got the books and skills from.

That is a luxury in my book. If you don’t think it is, then I’m sure you are spending money on some other things that I would consider no so smart.

I’m talking about going to a small town in Georgia.

$1,500 to go to a fricking baseball game on a long weekend 4 hours away isn’t normal, or shouldn’t be anyway.

How this is a difficult concept is beyond me

I didn’t say that. You’re being really hyperbolic so you can appear right.

No shite it’s a luxury, but a pretty small one

Why are you acting like people from Louisiana weren’t going to Houston or Florida for an occasional weekend until recently?

Well go then. Seems pretty important to you. I don’t care if you blow $1500 to see millionaires play a game. I think it’s stupid though. You do you.
