2014 B.A. Poli Sci & History B.A. LSU Alum here.
I like the idea of Poli Sci Masters as opposed to Law School. Don't pay the Tulane price though and your worries about a department being "looney left" are a bit plebeian. In any event, if you choose LSU, attach yourself to Dr. Cecil Eubanks. The man is a genius but overall the LSU poli sci department, especially the theory section, made it easy for students of a broad ideological spectrum to participate and feel included. No one was overtly dogmatic in their itemized political opinions.

There were some awesome profs there back in the day. Many were left leaning but open minded and engaging despite your political views. I was pretty close friends with most of them. That was early and mid-90s, and I can't imagine that it's anywhere near that way now.
Ellis Sandoz is the man, but he must be at least semi-retired.
Cecil Eubanks. Same.
Wayne Parent, Keith Bachelmann, and Mark Shafer were all fun. We socialized a lot out of class.
Mokeba was a good teacher if a little unclear and ambiguous at times. He did a good job with the Socratic Method, which is good law school prep.
Arango was a lot of fun.
James Stoner was definitely not a lib.
I never had Mulcahey (sp), but he was well liked.
I haven't checked lately to see if any of these people are still there (I gather Mokeba is).
The department had potential back in the day. I took a grad seminar before law school and a part of me wishes I'd stuck w academia. I was in the joint MA (poli sci)/JD program at Tulane but never even took a poli sci course. Decided to just do JD and go back later. That was 1998. Oops.

I can confirm that this is correct. Actually sat on his back porch with him pipe smoking when I asked him for a letter of recommendation for Grad School. Dear old guy, far past his prime, but still intellectually sharp.

If you think Bama is bad. Tulane could only be much worse. Tulane is the epitome of privileged white virtue signaling kids who feel guilty because they are rich

90% of that school is some combination of North Eastern transplants or Jewish.

Go get a law degree kid. If you want to topple the EU, it will have to be by prosecuting and legal maneuvering.

I will fight you over this statement. He was such a prick.

I did nazi that coming.
If you have a job offer of any kind, why throw money down the drain with a poli sci Master's? You'll learn much more on the job in politics.

Mokeba was awesome
i took him for like 4-5 classes
he stopped reading my tests during his intro class and just gave me 100s until like 3 classes later where he read one i mailed in and gave me a 95 with a note that said i need to try on the next one
and he told me about a scholarship or 2 that nobody applied for so i could apply and get that $

I have a few questions...
Why?
Why?
How does this impact your job prospects (or lack thereof) whenever you graduate?

It worked for me . I knew the essential things every Poli Sci graduate should know -political philosophy and process, and how to say “ May I Super- size that order for you, Sir”.
