My experince at LSU was most of my polisci teachers that were either conservative or liberal were always willing to engage you and debate you regardless of their beliefs, and there were a few that were too good to let you know which way they leaned. I liked that. In fact
That was my experience as well. Actually, some of the classes I had with some of the more liberal professors tended to be the most fun like with Mulcahy who was a loon and Falkowski who jumped upon a table in class....all 330 lbs of him.
I had Harry Mokeba too. He was great and although he was very big into international systems and organizations, he was incredibly open minded.....You did not have to agree with him....I remember his tirade against the international boxing associations after Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson back in the day.....it was a riot.
The best most informative ones though were the conservative ones like Cecil Eubanks, Ellis Sandoz and Wayne Allen.....they really challenged you. A B in either Allen's or Eubanks class meant you really worked at it. You better have citations, and multiple references and you better make a persuasive thoughtful argument.
Also had Eugene Witkopf who was a major get for LSU because he had written a seminal book on JFK and the psychology of Presidential decision making a la the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was an "expert" and he never let you forget it......major, major prick. Went through his class without killing him, told Wayne Allen about it and Allen gave me extra points just for enduring that asswipe
The memories......

Dr. Mokeba was the best professor I ever had at any level.

that was my major at LSU when I graduated in 1984. Now, that was 33 yrs ago, but it was a pretty good program with a lot of professors from high powered universities. Mostly liberal, but they didn't discourage differing opinions. Honestly, I entered as a confused Dem and left a "mean-spirited Republican."
Go the LSU route.
Go the LSU route.

James Stoner was definitely not a lib.
No, I would put him squarely as a little c conservative. Very nice guy both in class and outside of class
Intellectually, though, I'm not sure that any of us are qualified to be in either Sandoz's or Eubanks' shadows.

Parent is not but he is not a looney.
He was funny as hell. I would classify Parent more as jaded especially after years of observing and analyzing Louisiana politics.......in his mind both Louisiana Democrats and Republicans made him scratch his head

I will fight you over this statement. He was such a prick.
I don't personally know Dr. Mokeba, however, I do work with his son and if his son is anything like him than there is no way this statement can be true.
One of the most genuine human beings I have ever met.

You are DEFINITELY in the minority here. Actually, you may be the ONLY person I've ever heard to say such a thing about mokeba.
I'll bet dollars to donuts that you
1) didn't go go class
2) didn't do the take home test
3) didn't take notes the one time you DID go to class
4)were super pissed that he doesn't respond to emails in a timely fashion and doesn't use moodle.
Mokeba is an amazing dude. You just really must suck at life to think otherwise.

Stoner was a big contributor to me being kicked off the Democratic Party/liberal horse. I took most of my courses in theory and comparative politics. Stoner, Eubanks, Kim, and Parent were great. Rate my professor reviews are pretty accurate.

Clark, Eubanks, and Parent were amazing when I took their classes in undergrad as a polisci major. Clark especially. Man was always on point. But like others have said, the majority of the teachers were all willing to entertain ideas that conflicted with their own personal views and engage in healthy debate.

The classes with grad students teaching like intro to poli theory and all were crap.

Whatever problem you had with him was likely your own fault.

I liked that. In fact, i can't think of a teacher I had in polisci that let their beliefs affect their teaching or discussions. Which is much more than i can say for some of the dogshit professors i had at Loyola. Dr. Mokeba was the best professor I ever had at any level. Dr. Parent was an excellent resource if you're interested in Louisiana history and southern politics. Then of course there was Dr. Mulkay. Who was insane and took a shite on the floor at different people's houses, but his class was awesome.
I would agree with all of this, except I never took a class with a Dr. Parent. Spot on with Mokeba and Mulcahy. As weird a person as Mulcahy was, he was an excellent teacher--HUAC McCarthyism and the Public policy of Genocide classes probably influenced me more than any other clesses I took during my entire education. Poli Sci B.A. '99. But, as suggested by the OT, I went to law school so I can't advise as to the graduate program.
