quote:

OXFORD, Ala. (WBRC) - Oxford Police Chief Bill Partridge said an officer shot a man following a pursuit of a stolen vehicle that ended off Richeytown Road in Eastaboga in Talladega County.

Partridge said 28-year-old Terrell Lawler, Jr. of Eastaboga stole the vehicle.

When officers approached him after the chase, they said they noticed Lawler was holding something in his hand. Officers say they asked Lawler to drop the object several times, but he did not.

Officers say at one point he aimed whatever he had in his hand in the direction of officers. Officers then fired and Lawler was struck one.

quote:

Chief Partridge said Lawler is in stable condition.

Partridge went on to say, “I am fortunate to tell you that Mr. Terrell will be okay and I am sorry to tell you we had to be put in that situation.”

I grew up in Oxford, AL and the police there have never been shy about shooting anyone regardless of race. It's known that they don't put up with a whole lot. It is also pretty well known that the police chief is a major a-hole and has presided over a huge growth of all these military type toys (such as a helicopter for a town of around 25k ). Well, I live about 20 minutes down the road now but my shop is about 200 yards from the police station and rumors are swirling that the protestors are coming. I hope this doesn't mess up the rest of my week.

Oxford seems like a nice little town. I stop there, or in Anniston, pretty frequently. There's an O'Charley's in that area that I go to.

Sorry to hear that it's been inflected by the Blue Plague.

He was an innocent car enthusiast out for a pleasant drive.

Were they shooting to kill or shooting to injure?

Oh, they'll find one. Just give them a little time.
Stealing a car, not dropping what is in your hand and failure to comply sound pretty cut and dried to you and I. But I'm confident they will find something to make this into an issue.

In Minneapolis, the car owner and car thief would be in the process of talking out the robbery.

This will be the example of “you don’t have to shoot to kill”

Oh, I get it trust me. I don't see anything wring, but it is looking like the guy was unarmed and that's just gonna fuel these people if they do show up.

It's just unsettling that all this shite I've been watching on TV for two weeks could directly impact me soon. fricking sucks.

There must be more people on this board from our area than I realized.

I live in the area and there are lots of rumors. Hopefully this passes without incident.
