Not true. Feeling threatened is the same as perceiving a threat and if they percieve the dog as a threat, bad stuff happens. You have to remember officer aren't just walking down the street when they confront a dog. When you guys call for them or someone else calls, they go into areas of the yard that are generally secure and ole yeller is allowed to roam freely as he should. They're also inside the house. So to compare the UPS, FedEx or mailman to a cop isn't fair. Most of the time all they have to do is just drop off a package at the front door. They aren't walking beind the residence or going inside the house. Plus I'm sure private companies aren't too keen on their employees being armed, police are. Hate to say it but having an agressive dog is a risk and I love mean dogs. I'd own an Akita it wasn't so damn hot here.

give it up. No one respects cops here.

and what you can't get through your thick skull is the fact that people are starting to get fed up with the actions of police.

So, in order to respect cops, you have to accept that the cop was justified in shooting a leashed Labrador retriever in a back yard? Is that how it works?

While waiting to testify in a civil case, I was sitting in the lobby amongst 6 police officers, also witnesses. One got off his phone & jokingly commented that "District 6 sure has a lot of dog shooters". They all laughed.

I can name at least one poster on here who thinks it's no big deal, and business as usual.

I fear that cops are in need of a serious PR campaign and need to hire whoever to head it.

I didn't say that. The dog didn't deserve to be shot. The officer had a right to protect himself though.

I'm a grown adult male, so when I encounter a yellow lab tied up out in the burbs, I think I'll risk a nip instead of fricking offing a family pet because I'm a cowardly imbecile.
