Pepper spray works perfectly on dogs. Joggers carry pepper spray all of the time, and it'll stop a rabid dog. Read pepper spray reviews and you'll see proof of it happening hundreds of thousands of times each year
I don't think most cops carry pepper spray anymore. They rarely ever use it because it's not as cool as a tazer or gun

They should. USPS, UPS, FedEx,DHL,etc seem to get along with their day to day just fine without "smoking" dogs any time one barks at them.
Is it really asking that much of cops to show reatraint?
Why are cops' "feeling" threshold so much lower than the general publics? I can "feel threatened" by things in my daily life all the time but I would still get charged if I shot when I wasn't actually in danger.

Even if you put out your mind the needless cruelty to a living creature, this is still wanton destruction of property. It really shows a lack of respect for the general public on the part of law enforcement.

Postal workers, UPS/FedEx/DHL/Courrier services, etc, deal with dogs on a daily basis. Waaaaay more than cops. Yet, you rarely see a story where any of these people are mauled to death by dogs. None of them carry guns.

Yea I was being a little facetious admittedly. However, I do think it's funny when douchebags like Negative Nomad try and act like cops are some extraordinary class of citizens handpicked for their capabilities. No. It takes nothing special to be a police officer. There's a reason so many departments are struggling to hire. They are mediocre jobs for mediocre people. Any fat arse can sign up and become a cop. The job has no specialized requirements for education, skills, physical attributes, etc. Of course there are people who are in great shape, have good degrees, etc who choose to become officers (I have two fraternity brothers who are officers and would deplore NN's tough guy shite). But stop acting like you are better than us, because you're not. Chances are high we are more qualified than you to join the force but we could do better. Most people can.

Postal workers do get bit at a high rate. They all carry mace, pretty much every one of them has been bit.
Though I don't think any have died in the last 20 years.
