Yeah, I doubt that’s the real story.

Do you dispute the video is authentic? Can you give some examples where this is acceptable behavior?

It doesn't seem suspicious at all we can't get a good read on the speedometer. Biker was going considerably faster than prevailing traffic. I do that when you assholes are doing 62 in a 75 while scrolling the gram, and have to pass them in the right lane. But damn, you can see cop lights even if they're not lit.

On the positive side, if bikers wreck at 80+mph, there will not be health care costs, only burial costs. The amount of those dickbags (obligatory shout out to Challenger and Charger drivers, too) that need to be directed by a GPS over a tall cliff is near 100%.

Cop sucks for stopping like that but you should always leave enough room to stop even if they slam the brakes.

It was blanked out until they got under 80. I would guess he and the cop were running close to 100 for a short time, maybe 95. The impact occurred at right under 47mph.

ETA The biker was really late getting on the brakes (at least the front, you can't see his right leg). He didn't expect the cop to stop dead in the road, which I wouldn't either but he should have been on the brakes earlier. The cop brake checked him and changed lanes quickly then decelerated hard in front of him before he put his lights on.

I think dat a cop..

Why he brake check me?!?

Cop turns on lights and dumb dumb thought he’d get out of it by crashing into cop.

I only notice bikers who follow road rules; otherwise, I never see them. Can’t say I feel bad

I think there are two states where there are not speed limits on certain roads (IIRC). Texas can get to 75 (and I think to 80 in the west.)

It is totally shitty to try to cause serious bodily injury to someone even if they're breaking the law in an egregious manner, but shite. I saw at least nine cars driving with no lights on over 20 miles in Houston tonight. Wipe those assholes out, because I'll get blamed for changing lanes when I can't see them. DIAF.

I don't see shite except for driving inputs while I'm driving. No texts, I barely process Waze alerts, I'm focusing on all the frickheads on the road with me. How you drive a bike and are more blase about traffic movement, and who you follow or monitor is troubling.

I don't think he was legal at 80 because if I am not mistaken they were going north on I-75 north of Miami just south of the Alligator Alley interchange, which if memory serves the speed limit is 70. I think 80 just seemed like the speed that wouldn't seem overly fast.

The cop was trying to prevent him from running but IMO he put his lights on very late, especially for an unmarked car. He should have had them on before he started swerving and brake-checking him the first time. While we know the biker suspected it was a cop before the brake check without that info the cop could have looked like a road rage driver upset the bike was following him until the time the lights came on which was just 2 seconds before impact.

I see your point, but if you're not 17, have you not learned what an unmarked car looks like? I don't run drugs or sex slaves, and I get it.

I was taught that if I hit someone from behind it is my fault and no one else's. It would be by fault because I was either going too fast or following too close to stop. I guess personal accountability is something from days gone by.

Technically you were taught incorrectly. While it is a basic assumption there are millions of situations where the car in front shares some part of the legal liability. There is rarely a rule/law that doesn't have exceptions. Always and never are words/concepts that should rarely be used in precise discussion.

In this situation, the rider holds quite a bit of the blame for various reasons but the cop should have had his lights on much earlier and should not have come to a complete stop on an interstate travel lane. His swerving and brake checking early had no impact on his fault in the collision but rapidly changing lanes without signalling and brake checking would get you and me a ticket. He should have had his emergency lights on from the second he shifted over into the bikes @30 seconds. I know his intent was to prevent the biker from running but identifying yourself and your intent to pull him over would very likely have prevented the mess. I think it is fair to infer that the rider would not have run given he had a good chance when the cop was stopping, had he flicked it and hammered the throttle he could have been at least 1/2 mile ahead by the time the cop could match his speed even he even could.

Seems shitty what the cop did, but motorcycle riders should be prepared for such antics. I was taught that it didn't matter if you were in the right or not if you die.

I don't know who is legally wrong but the biker has the brain power and reaction time of a brick.
