Playing piano harder than learning to type?

I’m an old fart; learned to type in a high school class on an IBM Selectric. I’d like to learn to play piano with at least some modest degree of competence. Is it twice as hard? 10x as hard? About the same?

Well that's an interesting correlation, I'll give you that.

You play any other instruments?

Ever head the saying that you can't teach an old dog with two stones and a bush?

Nope, but I got your two stones right here. What’s yer point?

Well, that will make it a bit harder. Typing and piano don't really correlate, however if you can play one instrument well, then the transition isn't as difficult. You probably won't be able to string more than a few notes together for a good bit. It will usually take a good 100 hours of playing time before things really start clicking. Just play like 30 min - an hour a day and you'll eventually get there

Not difficult.
Like anything else it takes practice. You'll be much more successful if you can already read music.

I've always wanted to take piano lessons as well as an adult. Interested to see the responses in here.
I have heard it's much more difficult to learn as an adult though. No idea if that's true or not.

honestly, if you can learn to type without looking at the keyboard, you can learn to play piano. It's literally the easiest instrument to learn. The hardest part will be learning to read sheet music.

Ever played the skin flute?

No, and I don't really care for that tone you are using. Please make a note of that.

If you practice alot you can pick it up. With any instrument it takes lots of practice.

It will be much harder if you aren’t already musically inclined. Typing simply involves hitting the correct keys in the right sequence. It doesn’t matter how quickly you do it or if you speed up and slow down. Playing piano is not only hitting the right keys, but doing it in the proper rhythm, hitting different keys simultaneously, using foot pedals, and doing it all in a proscribed rhythm/time.

That sounds like a lot to do.

I do both quite well
Piano is nothing like typing

Before taking lessons, you could try YouTube videos on how to read music/basic theory, etc. I think self-study would also help you suss out whether you're really dedicated and should shell out for private lessons.
Best of luck to you! It's definitely a worthy endeavor and an amazing stress-reliever!
