Looking at booking a condo between the beach and 5th avenue in Playa. Want to travel in early July.

The other option would be all inclusive, but I like the idea of being able to choose where to eat and go.
Area looks nice for Mexico. Just wondering if others had advice on what to do or see while there.
I have been to Cozumel and Cancun but never Playa.

I stay at Puerto Aventuras when I hit that area, little less crowded and more laid back

I've been to Playa. Very nice area.
We went on the cheap to go for a friends wedding. I think there were about 50 of us at the all inclusive.

Pretty laid back area and it did seem to have some good restaurants off property. I even took the bikes into town a few times to drink and shop.

well we are looking to bring the kids to Paradisius in Playa next mardi gras. But I kind of wanted to spend a vacation exploring the city.
It's not set in stone yet. We just have the first week of July off.

Playa >>>> Cancun

The downtown is really nice, but the rest of the city is pretty poor. I can't really tell you where to go eat and all, but the beach area is incredible.

Tourism has really helped that area

this place must have developed quite a bit. I was on one of those ´shoot ém up´ online games (Call of Duty or whatever), and one of the battle sites looked EXACTLY like Isla Mujeres.

Playa's fun. We rented a house a little north in Puerto Morelos and then drove in to Playa to explore. The beach side of the interstate was nice. Inland side of the interstate was your typical Mexican urban area. Look in to Puerto Morelos. A little cheaper than Playa and gives you a laid back base to explore from.

Just a word of advice, if you take the ferry to Cozumel, note that there are two companies that do the ferries and they alternate times. Don't get suckered into buying a round trip ticket. Buy one way so you're not stuck waiting two hours for the other ferry.

What condo are you looking at? Google condo hotels playa del carmen and check out those properties.

LINK

Casa Dorthea, close to beach and fifth. pretty inexpensive. Was just one I was looking at. I like the rooftop kitchen, and terrace.

(and outside toilet)

Looks nice enough. We have stayed on 1st avenue just east of your place a few times in the condo hotel properties. Nice area of 5th you are looking at. The other end near the bus station can be a little shady. Good restaurants around too. Try la cueva del chango. Then walk all the way back down 5th from la cueva. Lots of bars, shopping, whatever whole way back.

We have been to Playa 7 times and will go back in January. Always stay at the Xaman Ha condos in Playacar. It's 3 blocks from 5th Ave and fabulous beach and pool. Plenty of bars and restaurants on 5th but venture a few blocks off 5th and its even better. Playa is fun. Just ignore the guys trying to sell you stuff. Stayed at Puerto Aventuras in a 2 br 2 bath condo on the beach in January this year (Quinta Maya) for $1200 - great deal. We'll go back to Puerto Aventuras again.

BTW. In July, your eyeballs will sweat its so hot.
