Don't limit yourself to Baton Rouge. Apply to the plants in Ascension as well as the plants on the west side of the river.

I have been applying to some plants around Baton Rouge as an operator. I have never worked in this field. I do have a bachelors degree. Any pointers or tips I can get from any of you guys in this field on trying to get a job at a plant?

Learn all the PSM categories. Look into the plant before you interview. Get familiar with what is their product, ask about their safety programs, what carcinogens do they have on site, etc. If you don't get an interview, I can't help you. As someone said, who you know is huge.

Entergy is putting in some CT's and HSRG's in the next few years in your area. I'm thinking about making a move. How us LC to live in and around?

I'm currently in education and hold an administrative role and have been looking to make the move. I've been applying to plants around where I live. I think I'm going to take some test from Exxon and see how I do.

I don't have a problem with it. If you ask people on this board, they'll say "it stinks! Literally!" What they fail to realize when they're driving through Lake Charles on that small strip of I-10, they're driving 500 feet from a refinery full of oil and gases and acid.

I'm building in Sulphur within the next year or so. But I've also grown up in this area so I'm used to it and don't hate it. The traffic is awful now and only going to get worse. There's a moderate amount of things to do, but it just depends on what you like. Remember, this isn't some enormous metropolis.

It's not Baton Rouge.

I guess you have to know someone. My buddy just tried getting a job at Exxon. He has worked in plants for at least 5 years. Has a bachelors in petroleum and safety. Got to the second round of interviews. They were only hiring like 35 guys. They picked someone with no plant experience and a bachelors in business over him.

I believe they look for ptech degree and internship/co-op now before they hire. Specifically for Dow I know.

With the washout rate of ptechs Dow is moving away from that being a hard and fast rule.

Compared to the shite hole I live in, It's a booming metropolis. I'm going to look into where that plant is going up to see what I would like to do. Have a year or two before they would be hiring.

Why is the washout rate so high? Do they know you still have to start close to the bottom when you don't know the unit.
