I have been applying to some plants around Baton Rouge as an operator. I have never worked in this field. I do have a bachelors degree. Any pointers or tips I can get from any of you guys in this field on trying to get a job at a plant?

I believe they look for ptech degree and internship/co-op now before they hire. Specifically for Dow I know.

Serious question, do you have to have a degree to be an operator? I have no idea. Im in the medical device arena (machining medical/surgical devices). I have seen alot of OG machine work in some of the magazines we get delivered here. May be thinking of a "field" change.

Buy truck nuts and FRC shirts and pants.

shite kick the first person you see in the nads with your steel toed boots.

shite oil on yourself and holler at someone else to clean it up.

You're hired; done deal.

Ptech degree can help.
Knowing someone can help.
Having a strong resume can help.
How you do on pre-test can help.
Working as a contractor can help.

Trying to get on at smaller places then using that experience to get on at larger is probably the best advice.

You can hire straight in to majors, but usually that takes a lot of things from above and the stars aligning.

If you can be a total dick to strangers and sit on your arse, you'll be a perfect operator.

Create a profile on LaWorks. Build your resume even though you don't have plant experience you should still build your resume and apply for jobs. The most important part is going in and taking the test. You are going to be in a room with 100+ people but of you score high enough you will get interviewed...

In the meantime I would look into trying to get a job with a contractor who works in the plants. It may not be your long term goal but it will help get your foot in the door and boost your resume for an operator job.

What is your degree in? With a degree, you can get into a plant pretty easy, maybe not an operator position, but maybe HR, supervisor, or something along those lines.

They teach you this week two.

Pretty effective against people who walk in a control room and expect heaven and earth to be moved because of their poor planning and punctuality.

Bringing donuts or cracklins solves all that

I'm doing great actually. Still not qualified for the plants though. My biggest regret in life.
