The good ole baw hiring committees don't exist like they use to but once you get in the nepotism is still strong.

Your money is always going up. How many job titles do you want to do the same job?

If I start feeling stagnant it's time to go.

Depends on the site size and what you are capable of doing. Large site allows you to move around a lot, I've moved 3 times in 4 years.

Move upwards about every 3 years if you want to and have shown the aptitude.

Large site, you never run out of new positions if you want to go after them.

Some guys like what they do and never want to move. They get really good at their jobs and when they leave it opens a huge gap.

Not much real promotional opportunity if you don't have an engineering degree.

I guess it depends on the site.

Plenty where I am. You can't hold engineering/technical roles. But coordinators and management roles are open.

Must have supervisors roles there likeold days. Dow did away with those jobs years ago. You won't move to leader or manager jobs in Dow without engineering unless you are in Finance, IT, or Purchasing. I went into the purchasing group for 4 years and most of them were engineers.

DOW is a special group. Never worked directly for them, but felt their effects of "self direction" and the clusterfrick it bringsm

I've started one of these threads before and got a lot of good advice. I just made 2 years as a dock operator and I'm still getting the shaft even for Terminal Operator jobs. Kinder Morgan passed on me and I just interviewed for EnLink and I haven't heard anything from them in over 2 weeks and didn't have a good feeling about it post-interview either.

I just e-mailed someone yesterday to get more info on their PTech program. It'll only be 33 credit hours for me to get it after my shite transfers from my B.S. degree. Some people told me I don't need the PTech degree but I think it's time to invest in myself and try and get a leg up on people. So tired of being passed over by less competent and qualified people.

Exact reason I'm thinking of transferring into maintenance dept. Good raise, 6am-230pm Mon-Fri, and company holidays off sounds pretty appealing.
