I mean if you're a no frills guy like me it's worth the 42 for sure. I don't need the whole 24 Sport type up the street. You know? Just go in, work out without 150 others there and go home. 42 per month for peace was in my wheelhouse. Like Berg, I'm kind of stunned at a 70 quote.

You sure it wasnt just $70 at sign up because of security/enrollment fee?

Yeah. It was surprising because the place is really small and not a lot of people go there. I dunno. I think I'm just going to do the Y.

I'm pretty sure it was per month. He didn't even mention a security fee. He told me it would be less if I did a 2 year membership, but it wasn't much less.
I guess things are more pricey around here. A Y membership is 53 for an individual, and other people have told me that's on the high side.

Good point. I did pay the upfront 99 blah blah which included month 1 and the door fob. Sabi, maybe give them another call if you liked it. Seems way off base. Summer is coming!

planet fitness is "0 percent judgement zone with pizza to eat", the OT is "100 percent judgement zone with no pizza to eat" so the OT says it is not a good place.

Yeah. I'm in great shape but I want to try heavy lifting: bench press, squats, deadlifts, cleans, etc. I don't have that kind of equipment at home. I want to get HUGE.

One of the perks of my job is a gym membership, the closest one to my office (can walk there) is a Planet Fitness.
You got a job at the Mary Lee's on Florida? Congrats.

Dumbell bench is a better exercise.

If you're actually, Ya know, interested in getting in shape, then planet fitness is probably not the place to go.

I´m paying 30 a month for LA Fitness.

That is dumb. A person can get in great shape at planet fitness. You just wont be able to do a lot of Olympic style lifts.

Last year, I attended Anytime Fitness (the one by me was awesome), but after moving, decided to give the new Planet Fitness a try.

It's not the most amazing place, but for 10 dollars a month, there is a lot of good equipment; it's a great bargain. There is no reason you can't get in (or maintain) great shape. I mean I'm in pretty decent shape, and it suits my needs. I also see a range of people, from clearly out of shape to absolutely ripped, so I would guess it generally suits their needs too.

Why do you laugh ? You move the weight through a greater range of motion, it addresses differences in strength on different sides of the body, it incorporates more stabilizer muscles, you can go heavy without a spotter, you can do partial reps and drops, etc

Not when the dumbbells only go up to 70. I think the Planet Fitness in Lafayette only goes up to 40 or 50 lbs

If you're in shape and looking to build, it's not for you.
If you're out of shape and looking for a place to start, PF is the spot.
Example - when I started dieting/exercise I was over 330 lbs. I've been busting my arse and am nearly 100 lbs lost. Now I want to start putting on some muscle, so in a few months I'll be switching to a gym that doesn't have restrictions on deadlifts and such. PF is really a starter gym, and also a gym where in shape poor people go because they can't afford anything else.
I seriously have no idea why someone who is in great shape would go there.
