Because this is America, and if I want an rifle, then I'll go get a rifle. It's not to look badass, or feel badass, it's for self preservation.

Mental health is a massive problem that people in our country don't want to address.
And if we're going to get to the absolute source of his mental health, they just said it. He lost both his parents and was an orphan. So bascially, I'm speculating that he came from a broken home.

So before the mental health comes poor to no parenting. Which is a HUGE problem in this country.

I agree with a lot of what you said. But over the years my stance on semi automatic rifles has changed. I just don’t really see why something like an AR-15 should be as easy to purchase as any other gun.

I say this as a concealed carry permit holder. I fully understand and advocate the use and ownership of handguns, hunting rifles, shotguns.. but I don’t really see the same need for an AR-15.

argument 2a supporters have is that the freedom to own guns is worth the gun violence.

If only we could make criminals follow laws that might work.

Even if you banned all guns, we have so many guns out there already it would probably take 50 years to drop to the level of gun violence in other western countries.

I am not for banning all, but I really think we need to take a hard look at what is readily available out there. Yes there are a lot out there and will take time, but when tragedies like these keep occurring we probably need to start sooner rather than later at addressing the issues.

On the other hand, it would take 2nd amendment supporters all of one shooting to declare the ban doesnt work.

And they would be retarded

Serious question. What kind of threat are you under that you need an assault rifle?

If thats the stance to take it should be extended to other aspects of life.

Should drugs be legal then as well? What about speeding in your car? Should prescription drugs be regulated?

If freedom extends to someone owning weapons that make it extremely easy to kill someone, why not extend other freedoms as well?

Why should public safety even be a concern at all?

Treating the symptom requires accountability. Nobody wants to be held accountable, thus we have mayors more worried about statues than crime statistics.

They know gun control is impossible. It is just an issue to appear like they are backing their base.

Gun control!

Will work about as good as the drug war and immigration.

The state and federal gov't.

The founders of this country understood that a disarmed citizenry had no chance of overthrowing a despotic gov't. That's why they put that clause in the constitution.

Could a threat like that never happen?

It's natural to look for an immediate answer to sooth the awful frustration in finding a reason for tragedies.

Do I believe there are things needed in the gun control world? yes. But, this perp was going to find a way to live out his perversion.

Whats scary are the masses of kids eating detergent as well as other YouTube type BS where a few splinter cells will see this and say to themselves its time to go beyond Tide Pods.......

Good point. You should enlist in the National Guard. Or better yet, lobby your elected officials to commission a citizen militia (since we’re so concerned about constitutional language), sign up, and register your weapons so that they may be well regulated (more fun constitutional language!).

I’m thinking no, actually. I don’t really see any sort of validity in that fear.

It's easier to blame the inanimate object and not the people who are responsible, and others.

My wife is a teacher, she tells me all the time that they see troubled kids in elementary school, but because of PC and other things, they cannot make recommendations to parents, and parents will not do the effort to invest in their kids lives.

They are too interested in buying toys, and being friends with their children instead of parenting.

Hate to break it to you, man, but if somehow we had a dictator that was able to use our military against the citizens of this country, you and your AR 15 aren't going to do shite against the military fire power at their disposal.

Look up how many people are killed everyday with a handgun and get back to me.

It's not the guns it's the people. Ban AR15 then handguns will be next.

Serious answers.

1. Other people that have one.
When/if they get banned, and I turn mine in, criminal doesn’t, why should I be the one at a disadvantage?

2. Katrina type emergency. Why should I be at the mercy of those not following rule of law? What else would protect me and my loved ones better?
