What is your source for the pics? I love looking at stuff like that.

You may have seen this before, but the EBR Library has a ton of old pictures and maps posted online.

LINK

I remember Joe D's, my mom used to bring me there as a kid. We would always pick up BBQ for lunch/dinner with the sides.

The climate in Louisiana doesn't seem conducive to drive-in movie theaters. It's either hotter than hell or a monsoon outside.

My
quote:

Community grocery store at Government/Eugene. When I was little my grandmother used to send me down there to buy her cigarettes. She would give me 6 cents to buy a candy bar.
Just across Government was Pak-A-Sak. We would stop there on the way to church to pick up a Sunday newspaper and 2 comic books. Used to love my Icee's too.

We'd grocery shop at Community some, and me and my brothers would get our hair cut at that little barber shop across the parking lot from Community.

Meese's was a little further West and it was areal gas station; full service, mechanic, etc.

Of course BRHS is catty corner across the street.

There was another small grocery store East of Community across from BRHS. We shopped there too.
I can't recall the name. Phillips maybe.

Frosttop was East of that.

If it hasn't been mentioned yet...

Frosttop on Florida, between Flannery and Sherwood Forest.

Nevermind, I see it mentioned just above me.

i think i remember there being a store in the middle of the parking lot in front of the old Broadmoor Theater that was sort of a flea market maybe. I know the old flea market at the Rebel shopping center.

Being Christmas time, I remember going to either the Broadmoor Theater or someplace right around it to some kind of flea market where a guy had every piece of Lionel Train gear you could ever want. It was truly the most magical thing I think I'd ever seen. I must have been around 9-10 (so around 1990), and I would spend about 100 hours every year making up a new design with my dad's original Lionel set from the 50's.

Those were the good ol' days. We used go to the $1 movies when I was a kid. The last time I went was when my mom took some friends and I to see Be Be's Kids and we were the only white people there. We went to movies at the Seigen Theater from then on.

it was on Florida east of Flannery

Used to get drunk at Chelsea's in Cortana, I think
