I’d rather trust my kid with a gorilla like Harambe than a pit bull

Yes a-hole, very triggered by idiocy and ignorance!
I personally cannot stand Labrador Retrievers, because, as a teenager, I was attacked by one that was loose, and had to have quite a few stitches as a result of the attack. This dog was a trusted family pet that escaped from his yard and ended up attacking me as I rode by on my bike.

I would never say that labs need to be killed, banned, or that they are trashy with trashy owners. I have owned many bully breeds over the years and I have had to euthanize some that were crazy acting.

It is not the breed so much as the breeders and irresponsible owners.
BTW, I am neither trashy nor ignorant and I currently own a very large Amstaff and no amount of your stupidity will ever change my mind on the breed!

Are there vicious dogs of other breeds? Yes, no doubt.

There are none that have caused anything close to the amount of maulings / deaths than this one "breed."

It is the fault of the breeders, trashy, irresponsible owners, that there is such hype against the bully breeds.

Which only further proves the OP's point.

Anecdotal evidence will get you nowhere in this debate.

frick yourself, you ignorant cock holster. Being educated to the fact that one type of dog REPEATEDLY attacks and maims, is not the same as being scared of dogs.

Are you trailer or ghetto? Either way - you fricking suck.

How about young children that get their face, and life, ruined by these dogs.

Do you think they should be scared?

I can't be the only one who finds people that make statements like this to be more melty, trashy, and filthy than the person they are trying to insult every time.

said it before and I'll say it again. Only good pit bull is a dead pit bull.

It's not their environment. I've played with pit pups and they are over agressive and will lunge at face/neck out of instinct.

Question for the pit bull owners: Assuming you aren't using them for hog hunting, why do you have one (as opposed to other breeds) - especially if you have children.

It seems to me that there is a big show off factor - "look how badass my dog is."

They ought to make pit owners have insurance.

I hate when I go to the farm store and there is a pit on a chain in the back of a truck, with no owner around.

I always think "hope that chain holds."

The shelters are full of pits and the Everglades are full of pythons because of people who acquire dog/snakes to show off, then realize that they can't keep them.

y'all can say what y'all want, but if/when i take my pure bred vizsla to a dog park to play and socialize. if there is a pitbull mix already there, we turn around and go home.

why should i risk your shite mutt potentially killing our intelligent, loving, and playful family pet. no other dog owner is completely comfortable with your dog being there.

Parmen was being nice about just suggesting pits be muzzled. IMO, they shouldn't be allowed at public dog parks or anywhere near a public park with children.

Question for the pit bull owners:

I have a pit mutt that we didn't know was a pit at the time. Got her as a rescue when she was a pup and she is now 8(ish) years old. A friend did the DNA test a few months ago and she came out 75% pit, 12.5% chow chow and 12.5% 'mixed herding group'.

I didn't get her for any other reason than it was a small pup behind a dumpster who was scrawny and needed help which coincided with a time we were discussing getting a dog.

The breed gets a bad wrap, and in my opinion justifiably so as the numbers don't lie and the statistics show they - more frequently than other breeds - can be volatile and inflict serious damage.

That said, my dog has never been aggressive, was socialized at dog parks, stores, etc. when she was young and all around is a fantastic dog. I wouldn't trade her for anything. Everyone that has met her says she is one of the best dogs they have met. Maybe it's bc she was raised 'right', maybe bc she isn't pure pit, or maybe she is just above average. I don't really know, nor care, I'm just happy I have a good dog.

So while the breed may typically be 'worse' than others, that doesn't mean that each individual dog is a monster I guess is my point.

Side note - anyone that leaves any breed of dog alone around an infant is either an irresponsible dog owner, parent, or both in my opinion.

My first one was found abandoned and tied up to a fence post. I was young and it was one of those moments in life where taking on the responsibility of a troubled animal seemed like a really good idea. I spent 10 years with her and we learned a lot from each other. We were both in a better place. You can call her whatever you want, pit bull, bull dog, Americanwhatever terrier but I can assure you the world is a little darker place without her around. You would have a hard time convincing anyone who met her that she was anything other than a loyal and loving animal. She was nothing more than a happy dog.

Maybe. Maybe not. The same can be said for any breed. That's why breeds exist.

This gets thrown around a lot. All dog owners should have insurance and in my experience most do. I pay homeowners insurance just like everyone else. I've never had any issues getting insurance or noticed any higher than normal premiums because of the breed of dog that sleeps in the house.
