You are implying what that logic that it is solely owner's fault that pitbulls are aggressive. This isn't true.

What I am saying is Pits are aggressive because they have been breed by humans to be aggressive. That isthe truth. It is the same reason my Bassets go ape shite when they see a rabbit and my Ridgebacks didn't need to be taught to find, trail, and bay a pig. They were selectively bred by humans to do a job. You give the Pit "treatment" with the breeds I mentioned and you get bigger, stronger, faster dogs that can kill humans much easier than a Pit. These dogs already have an aggressive side to them so it wouldn't take a lot of selective breeding to turn at least certain lineages into the same weapon as Pits they would just be much better at it. It is nature of certain humans you are battling not the nature of a dog that was "made" by humans.

ETA I should have included the Bully Kutta in the list but god help us if the trashy owners found out about them. They would be the nuclear option and already bred for fighting.

In your google searching did you bother to look at prices?

Trash aren't spending thousands for a dog.

Pits are overbred and often free.

I'd just as soon shelters had an automatic kill policy for the things.

Pits weren't trained to attack children/people.

Comparing them to the instincts of hunting dogs is laughable.

think this would end with unintended consequences. If you eliminate the Pits you have done nothing to eliminate the people that want aggressive and intimidating dogs. They will simply move on and destroy another breed or breeds. If you think a Pit can do damage to a human it is nothing compared to what a Cane Corso, Kangel, or Dogo Argentino could do bred with the same eye for aggression. They all three have a bite force at least double that of a Pit and are bigger, stronger, and faster. It would be trading a .380 for a .44 Mag you don't want to get shot by either but given the choice you will take the .380 slug all day everyday.

I've read a lot of stupid frickin posts on TD, but this one takes the cake. You have obviously never been around pitbulls or dogs in general. Pitbulls are born killers. I love dogs more than humans, but would have no problem shooting a pitbull preemptively.

Agreed. They are serial killers, not hunting dogs.

Your argument that every dog breeds traits aren't all a result of human selective breeding is laughable. Domestic dogs are a man made product. They are what we have designed them to be, whether it is hunters, shepherds, herders, retrievers, or fighters. The "instincts" of hunting dogs are strong because of human interaction.

You mention the cost of the dogs I listed and then go on to point out Pits have been overbred so they are cheap. You completely miss the fact that any breed of dog can be overbred. Some Pit lines are very expensive and some trash has money.

I don't know how anyone can make a straight-faced argument that the people who want aggressive Pits will just give up that desire if Pits cease to exist. They will replace them with something and it is likely larger breeds that already have a high level of aggression.

As for Pits not being bred to attack people and children in a way they have been. When owners bred dogs that showed aggression to humans they were developing that trait. Had they all been euthanized or at least fixed at the first sign of human aggression we wouldn't have a Pit problem. Denying Pit temperament is not a result of humans is just denying the origin of the domestic dog and the hereditary links for aggression or any other trait.

Feel free to point out where I made such a claim.

It isn't there Ace.

They were bred solely for bull baiting, which was a blood sport involving the dogs subduing a bull by the neck(sound familiar?) or nose until it died. When that was outlawed, they started fighting the dogs for money(sound familiar?).

It's literally in their DNA to attack. That's what they were bred to do.

Kill them all. Then we wouldn't have daily pit bull threads with about 3 or 4 homer pit owners making 78 page threads

Had a pit for 5 years of my life. Wasn't full-blooded though. Was pit and lab mix. He constantly chewed on our house cause I think he had separation anxiety from me leaving to go to work. Oh and he would get out of the fence and roam. I gave him to a neighbor. Because when he would roam he would go to the neighbors house and hang out with him, so I guess the neighbor liked him too because he asked if he could have him. I reluctantly gave him away. I see him every so often. Still a good boy. Down vote away.
