Dynamic takeoff is what you're referring to.

I just call it a takeoff.

it’s called a rolling takeoff, pretty common but you can’t always do it

I'm briefing a dynamic takeoff next flight, just to see if the crew is listening.

That's my favorite. Pair that with the pilot making an announcement that you're going to land earlier than expected and you know it's going to be a good day

The flip side of this is when the pilot announces there will be no drink service on the plane. Makes me want to break federal law and jump off that motherfricker

And just gun it right into takeoff make me confident. That’s all.

No need to stop you p*ssies.

pretty sure the ATC controls this. You should knight for him instead.

Can’t stand when they make everyone get on the plane just to wait on a hot stuffy plane for an hour with no drink service.

I always like it when they get me there and a wheel doesn’t fall off or a door fly open.

It's all fun and games until the engine falls off the wing.

Just to arrive early and there’s no open gate to pull in so wait for another 30 minutes for a plane to move has to be the most soul crushing thing ever.
I’ve had this happen numerous times.

I usually get on the PA and say, Well folks, we arrived 15 minutes early, and our gate is still occupied by an outbound flight. So, like most things in life, no good deed goes unpunished.”

I have this PA memorized it’s happened so many times.

With ATL as my hub, I have never had a chance to experience this.

I’m not a pilot but it seems this would be dictated by air traffic controllers.
You are correct.

When we’re cleared onto the runway, it’s either “Cleared for takeoff” or “Line up and wait.”

If you’re cleared for “Line up and wait,” you taxi onto the runway and line up on the centerline and hold the brakes. It’s usually commanded because they either have aircraft taxiing across your runway or for wake turbulence avoidance if a heavy departed before you.

I so wish they would post the pilots pic and resume for each flight.

That’s mostly determined by ATC. Sometimes the command is line up and wait and sometimes it’s you’re cleared for take off from the hold short position.

Happens frequently at DCA due to a single main runway used for most landings and departures - there is always a queue of inbound flights on or near final approach so when they get on the runway it's go time.
Truth.

They’ll clear you to line up and wait as soon as the landing aircraft crosses the runway threshold and sometimes you have to wait for the landing aircraft to turn off the runway onto the taxi way.

They usually try to stagger the inbound landing traffic to get at least one departure between landings during peak times.

If ATC says line up and wait they can’t just gun it.
If ATC gives them clearance before turning on then yeah… most pilots will do it assuming they are all set
