not trying to protect them, but they are a low cost company for the most part, what should we expect? You can’t ship a ton of cheap shite and pay well. That’s not how capitalism works. Same with Walmart.
I mean I’m not sure what people really expect? If you want crap cheap costs have to be cut.
This is him blaming the rich guy rather than Atlas air for allowing these guys to fly the plane. Amazon hires Atlas with the understanding that their aircraft and aircrew will safely get their product from point A to point B.
The Captain and First Officer had absolutely no business being in the cockpit (which falls solely on Atlas) but lets blame the person with 'the most money'. Reading the article and seeing how quickly the number of aircraft increased in such a short time should have been a red flag that there was no way (or it would be very hard) to get and keep people certified.

ETA: I’m talking to three guys on here, one of which is in this thread and is a highly experienced pilot. The other two are flying an F-15 and C-130 and are qualified to fly for the airlines.
777Tiger understands that the industry does have some talented people who may not want to start over in a new company. They may not want to start off at the bottom of the food chain (with bad trips and ugly stews) where at their current job they make decent money, get the better trips and may not have to deal with certain 'corporate bs'.

How was he able to remain a pilot with that record?

With the Colgan crash the Captain failed training with the company (not just with several other airlines) and both he and the first officer were basically flying on zero sleep (i believe she flew from Seattle to Kansans City to JFK) and caught a couple of hours of sleep in the crew lounge before the flight, maintaining a non sterile cockpit.
I believe the first officer was making about 16k a year to fly with them.

The fleet has mushroomed since 2010. I bet the majority of the people flying for these carriers are inept
As for inept, he's been flying worldwide for many years and is a captain, making near $500k a year flying 767's. Doubt he's inept, and doubt many are. The occasional outlier gets through, no doubt, though.

FedEx and UPS don’t hire inept pilots. Maybe one or two squeak through but it’s defin not the norm. Those guys are some of the highest paid in the industry and those are some of the most sought after jobs.
Companies like Atlas/ATI/ABX who fly routes for Amazon and DHL are woefully underpaid and attract pilots like the guys who crashed this plane. I’m not saying these companies don’t have a bunch of talented guys because they do, but they also have a lot of retards who couldn’t get on anywhere else.
I’m actually considering going to a company like those above at some point but that’s solely because I don’t have a college degree that is required by the big boys like FedEx/UPS/ or the legacy airlines. Also the schedule appeals more to my lifestyle than the passenger airline schedules do.

Yep, know a couple of those guys and was surprised at how much they make. Must be a solid gig with no passengers to worry about.

The NTSB says that the first officer failed proficiency evaluations during his training at Atlas Air, which operates Amazon Air flights, and at his prior job at Mesa Airlines. He also washed out of training at two other airlines, which he concealed when he applied for work at Atlas,
How in the hell was this guy flying? Have something on someone?

And if I read correctly upthread, his family is now trying to sue the airline claiming he was overworked.
shite like this is why people don’t want to take a risk on someone. If they work out, great. If not, you can’t fricking get rid of them without a lawsuit.

wait , is the pilot standing somewhere behind this baggage handler ?

He was from Antigua. Foreigners suck at flying airplanes.
