Dude, allergy and addiction are two opposing medical problems. This is very basic stuff.

Would that not be circumstance?
Let me elaborate.
Recreational drug and alcohol use is rampant for those that are homeless by choice (squatters, urban campers, etc).
So, it’s really a combination of the two. Either they were driven ill by the chemical abuse, or, they have an underlying illness/personality disorder which is exacerbated by chemical use.
I’m just saying it’s not pure laziness which puts them on the street.

But it is still an illness. A common cold is an illness. So why wouldn't that be a mental illness?
You're making the claim that anyone who lives a non traditional lifestyle is mentally ill.
That's just dumb.

How you twisted that out of a single sentence is baffling. Try again.

Exactly. It's a chicken or the egg argument. And of those driven by economical reason, how long does it take before some mental illness starts playing a role in deepening the problem. I would guess it would be extremely hard to live on the street and maintain total sanity.

do morbidly obese people also have an allergy to food?

Is a strawman allergic to straw?

I’m also making the point that there’s a big difference between the war vet holding a sign on a freeway off ramp and the gutter rats that travel in packs, almost like gangs.
The gutter rats that (homeless by choice) are the ones that harass people, steal from local businesses, etc. They are a true nuisance to society.

Because the sentence was poorly written. In his subsequent post he stated the idea much more clearly.
I didn't "twist" anything. I take words at face value.
frick face.

The mental illness isn't by choice. The response to it is. The response is choosing to live that way. And the reason they choose to live that way (the response) is because of the mental illness they have.
And by mental illness, that doesn't necessarily mean that they need to be locked up in a padded room somewhere, by the way. It can be just a warped way of looking at things in life. Like more warped than normal.

Living on the street and trespassing on somebody's property is not simply a "non traditional lifestyle". If you think that's all it is, then you are mentally ill.

I think he's pretty well abandoned ship at this point.

It absolutely is.
It's public property most are trespassing upon btw: They're given permission in most cases so I don't think it's even trespassing for many.
Hell, many sleep in their own vehicles or crash at other people's homes.
The overwhelming majority of homeless are in that condition for a temporary period of time.
