You haven't come close to reading 100% of the literature.

Just like your dumb assertion that homelessness is mostly mental illness related.

There are, there have been and there will always be people who choose a different lifestyle.

You sure this isn’t Venezuela? This looks like socialist countries. Yea we totally need that in our lives.

Add to the number of homeless already here by the number of people in the country minus the number of elected officials. That’s how that works.

Yep. They used to be called bums - people too lazy to get a job - but now we're afraid to hurt their feelings.

Uh yeah, I would consider working a job and paying for your own apartment/condo/house would be a very common (and viable) societal norm. That's more along the line of basic security of self that has existed since the dawn of modern civilization. You're going way out on some sort of sociological limb to make a point. Come on, Roger.

Absolutely. There is an allergy to alcohol, those people cannot drink it. Alcoholics don't have that problem.

Ok.

Seems the problem here is you have issues with the definition of sanity and mental illness. I'm going to go with AA and the established medical opinion on this one.

No, you do.

BTW: Sanity is slang. It can be applied to many things.

An illness of this sort - and we have come to believe it an illness - involves those about us in a way no other human sickness can. If a person has cancer all are sorry for him and no one is angry or hurt. But no so with the alcoholic illness, for with it there goes annihilation of all the things worth while in life. It engulfs all whose lives touch the sufferer's. It brings misunderstanding, fierce resentment, financial insecurity, disgusted friends and employers, warped lives of blameless children, sad wives and parents - anyone can increase the list.
From Chapter 2, "There is a Solution"

Are you sure you read all of the literature?

This same concept could apply to somebody who is ok with just being a frickup and sponging off of begging people for money and trespassing to set up camp on somebody's property. Now that wouldn't necessarily bring

But it is still an illness. A common cold is an illness. So why wouldn't that be a mental illness?

He has no idea what he's talking about here, obviously.

And sanity has a definite definition. I have no idea where he's getting this stuff from other than his head.

One opinion from one doctor. Shall I link Dr. Silkworth's opinion or since you've read 100% of the literature, you're familiar with it right?

Even in the opinion you linked, it fits alcoholism to the letter:

quote:

People often call alcohol intolerance an alcohol allergy, and vice versa. People who have a true alcohol allergy should avoid drinking alcohol entirely.

What are the symptoms of alcohol allergy?

If you have a true alcohol allergy, even small amounts of alcohol can cause symptoms. In some cases, it can even cause anaphylaxis. This is a potentially life-threatening allergic reaction.

It's textbook.

There’s 2 types of homeless folks. Those that are homeless by choice, and those that are homeless by circumstance.

for those that are homeless by choice, its due some combination of mental illness and chemical abuse. I cannot accept that a normal person is just so lazy to the point that they’d rather be homeless than a working citizen. There has to be an underlying problem.

In terms of burdening society, it’s definitely those that are homeless by choice that are a bigger problem.

Except that he suggests mental illness is by choice?

Would that not be circumstance?

Unfortunately, living in Los Angeles and working in the Hollywood area for many years, I’m well informed (and have many first hand experiences) with the homelessness problem.

The talking point is homeless people are just down on luck and need help. Reality is most are lazy drug addicts. Western white citied claim public assisted housing is the solution. I giggle because they gloss over the fact eastern cities tried this and they turn into ghetto hells.

Thing is, it would take a very small amount of work and they could profit off of their efforts for weeks by advertising with a little sign made from the inside panel of an old discarded case of beer. Another hustle right after local elections: "Homeless. I've cleaned up x number of old political signs locally to make the Northshore a better place. Please contribute."

The majority of homeless people are mentally ill, drug addicts, or have zero desire to do actual work. They aren’t going to be picking up trash and illegal signs
