Funny how you never really see people pulling boats with sedans anymore. It's usually a pickup or SUV.
Trucks were exclusively for blue collar folks to do blue collar things in for a huge percentage of Americans. Admittedly less true in the American South but still largely true here.
The closest to having a truck that they may have come back then was to have a full-sized SUV but that was usually for a family with a bunch of kids and the mom used it as her primary transportation.
Station wagons (estate wagons in the UK) were more popular then too as there were only a few choices of what would later be sized like a modern mid or a small-sized SUV*.
1973 International Travelall (several Moms (no pics) of my peers had this brand in '60s & '70s)

1968 Volvo Station Wagon

Grandma kept her glass dildo on a chain around her neck.
Times were hard, unfortunately for her the men weren't back then.

My dad drove a 72 International Travelall.. They used it with his beer business pulling a beer trailer for events.
Looked just like this.
The International Scout is actually considered the first SUV..

Not always. My dad drove a pickup. Had a PhD from LSU.
