Ray Rayner was a popular children’s show host on Chicago TV in the ‘60s and ‘70s.
During WWII he was a prisoner in Stalag Luft III. He helped prepare The Great Escape but did not participate in the escape itself, having been transferred with other American troops a few weeks earlier -- thus probably saving his life.
