I was eating out yesterday with my family at Fuji Hana. As we were walking to our table, we passed a family. The husband and wife were on one side of the booth talking. Their teenage son was literally lying down on the other side of the booth, headphones in, looking at his phone.

Do you let your kids look at their phone at the table?

If someone is looking at their phone instead of conversing with you then it is a good sign you aren't interesting enough to converse with.

Sorry man, work on your social skills.

As for other people and their tables, I don't concern myself with that. Not my business.

If the kid is quiet I don't see a problem.

To me it’s awful parenting. This kid was about 15. Imagine going on your first date when all you have ever done is looked at your phone at restaurants.

You should've manned up and told the beta dad he sucks as a father. Then banged his ole lady in front of the dad and son.

We have a no phone policy at the dinner table and no video games Mon-Thurs.

Our phones are consuming our lives, and I have no room to say anything to anyone about being on one. Only exception is when driving.

My in-laws do this with their kids when we go out to eat. The kids know their passcodes and exactly how to maneuver around the iPhone.

On the one hand, it's nice that the kids are quiet (until the battery starts dying), but on the other hand they're severely missing out on social skills and how to act right in public.

But they're not my kids, so it's not my call.

Growing up, adults always read the paper at the dinner table. Whats the difference?

My wife and I try to watch a show together and both be present at dinner. We don’t have children. I don’t know if it’s a generational thing, but I find it rude if someone comes up to me while I’m reading something on my phone or typing on my phone. In my eyes I am engaged in something, usually a conversation with someone else. I don’t care if they aren’t physically in front of me, I am still occupied with that communication.

If I’m talking to someone I show the same respect. I’m not going to whip out my phone when I’m in the middle of a convo w someone. But if I’m not being spoken to and there are people around me, if I want to get on my phone I will.

Literally lying down?

That’s way worse than regular lying down.

Meh, as long as they're quiet then fine with me. Now, I don't let my kids bring electronics to the table when we eat. I also don't take them out to eat very often. Don't want my kids to think it's ok to be 400lbs.
