I've never been to Phoenix, but Seattle is awesome. A cousin of mine got a tech job up there so we've been visiting a lot. If you're an outdoors person, you'll absolutely love it there.

Is it a job offer within the tech industry?
It is not, but with a non-profit.

Also whoever said it's possible to live in Seattle without a car and public transportation being reliable, has never lived in Seattle. That's just bad advice/info.
I said that, and I've lived in Seattle for 8 years without a car

Phoenix has hotter women and a better party scene. Seattle has legal weed and more of a big city feel. Both have awesome outdoor activities but I'd give Seattle the edge because it's close to a wider variety of environments.
Especially on Camelback Mountain.
Isn't the MMJ program in Arizona almost as open and easy to get a card as Cali? In Phoenix I saw dispensaries and docs listed all over the local free magazines.

I'm not sure. I moved from AZ in '04 and I was in the military then so I wasn't exactly toking up.

My friend has lupus and had no trouble getting a medical card here.
She actually has a legit medical condition that benefits from the program. Since getting the medical card...she's been able to stop taking a couple other arthritis meds that had been giving her unwanted side effects.

Seattle and it isn't even close. Seattle is a great city.

What are your thoughts on rain?
I currently live in Seattle and have lived in Phoenix and there is no comparison...Seattle hands down. I think that Seattle's reputation for rain is way overblown. They get about half the rainfall of BR and this past winter set records for rainfall but I rarely needed to stay indoors (I hike most weekends). Light rain is common but nothing a good rain parka can't handle. Spring-summer-fall are unbeatable. I found Phoenix heat to be oppressive (sure, no humidity, but 110 and above is challenging) and the city sprawls forever.

To me this comes down to salary. Seattle is a much better city but I don't know if you'd want to live there on a beginning salary or if you're making way less than $100k.
If you're single and making close to $100,000 or more I'd pick Seattle b/c your quality of living would be fine
If you're making between $30-000 and $80,000 I'd pick Phoenix.
Adjust for your wife/kids if you have any.

Drizzling rain or dust storms? Both towns have their ups too.

Seattle easily. It's a true world class city surrounded by world class mountains/nature/ocean, and only a quick car/train ride to Vancouver or Portland. This shouldn't be a question at all if you love the outdoors.

Phoenix has better weather than Seattle.
Phoenix is close to Los Angeles and Vegas.
Seattle is close to Portland and Vancouver.
I would pick Phoenix.

It's even cheaper if you go more west valley or east valley.
We got lucky though..I know rents have gone up some. Still....you could easily find a 1 bedroom apt for 900-1000 in Scottsdale.
