You want life to go back to normal - especially for older relatives? Then you want to let "big pharma" have an incentive to develop vaccines and treatments for this.

It's the truth. Trump and operation warpspeed guaranteed the vaccine makers a huge profit.
There wasn't a cost to develop vaccine vs profit analysis because the companies knew they were gong to get a huge profit.
Do you understand that in typical drug development a company has to consider the cost of clinical studies, the cost of FDA approval, and the years required to recoup that investment? Because Trump guaranteed profit from the beginning the companies were able to develop it without thinking about the years needed to recoup their investment. The money to develop it and distribute it was already in the bank so to speak.

When the immunity boost that the vaccine provides eventually loses it's strength, people will need boosters - especially those in group homes, prisons, dorms, and nursing homes.
They developed this vaccine so quickly, they should be able to make a good profit from it. Just worth noting that there are competing options to keep their pricing in check.

Moderna has already conducted immune response research showing theirs will likely provide immunity for two or more years.
