That can be said about any profession. That doesnt mean that the entire profession is a bunch of crooks.

But few professions tug at your heartstrings / needs with the opportunity for preying on your lack of knowledge like vets and body shops.

Most people have pets that they love and cars that they need. Thus, they will generally pay whatever the expert tells them they need to pay without questioning it to get their pet / car back.

When we lived in Texas, the place we used for boarding charged us a $10 per visit "pet warranty" that basically said if they got sick or hurt, they would pay 100 percent of the bills for it.

Had to use it a couple of times when the dog got sick while we were boarding him.

Yep. If the dog was injured during playtime with other dogs, then maybe its not the vet's fault and was just bad luck while playing with other dogs. Now if it was something they did, like injuring it during a bath or something, then you should raise hell.

A good vet would provide care as a courtesy to keep you as a happy customer and prevent you from spreading bad word of mouth. Even if you signed some kind of waiver, I'd press them to not charge you.

My dog was at a local boarding place and his ear got cut while we were out of town. They took him to the vet and paid the bill. No questions asked. They didn't even let me get the question out of my mouth as to who was going to pay for it.

I'll use them from now on...

Probably cheaper to just put it down.

I'd go there in person and handle it like a man. Check knuckles first, though.

Yes that is exactly why people enter that profession and go into a whole lot of debt just to make 60k and prey on customers.

So you know more than the person with the doctorate?

Maybe some vets get pissed that they went to so much school and make 60K per year? But seriously, I never once attacked vets as a whole. I just simply stated that you'd be very naïve to think stuff like this never goes on.

Never said I do, but how would I know anyway? That's the point.

I thought vets made much more than this.

Right out of school they make around 60k. Median for the profession is about 75k with the top 10% making over $140k. This is with 90% leaving school in about 150k of debt. This is on par with medical doctors who make at minimum, double what vets make for essentially the same amount of schooling.

Um wow, this happened to my brother.

He had his dog in their kennel and his dog ended up with a broken leg..

but since it was under their care, they actually paid for the whole thing...

they actually were just the opposite. they were like take him home and see how he is.. if he doesn't get better bring him back for an x-ray (which they would cover) well a week went by and he didn't get better so he brought him back. he got a free x-ray.. then a free cast.. then free surgery to fix it..

heh.. not sure you should have to pay for a freaking x-ray for something that happened under their care.. maybe it's in the fine print though when you signed him up?

True,

but thats because when a pediatrician tells you your sons surgery will cost $5000 you dont say, "eh just put it down, ill get another one"

And ya know, insurance takes care of it for the most part.

right, but you can get pet insurance, people just dont, because its a pet

im not arguing anything here, just saying that they get paid less, because you're talking about animals, not people

unless of course its some fancy horse vet

im sure there are some horse owners that care more about their horses than their kids
