A lot is cultural.
Men tend to be more career driven.
That lends more to apartment living early in career. As they won't stay in area more than a few years.

Really impressive for women considering they get paid $.70 for every $1 a man makes doing the same job. They must be really good with money.

My first home was bought, on my own, when I was about 23. There was no down payment requirement, at the time. Just my experience.

Maybe women also spend money they don’t have? They have higher levels of debt than men. Women buy too much house or a house they shouldn’t own at all. Maybe men stay on their budgets and are more frugal.

I think that's definitely a factor as well. Men are more likely to be willing to relocate and renting makes you more agile.
